What is the newest RED sub that has been authenticated?
Good Morning room.
I am seeking to find out what is the 'newest' RED Submariner anyone knows of that has been authenticated. I know of 1977 & 1978 models but none that have been truly authenticated. If anyone knows of any late seventy ones I would love to know. Best Regards, Davey |

Do some research on doubleredseadweller.com
No red subs that late - early 70s, I'd say for MKV / MKVI. Later ones are red service dials.

Service dial value
Thanks for the reply. If the service dial is fitted by Rolex does it count as genuine? Or is the value of the piece then affected in any way?
Thanks, Davey |

Genuine Rolex: yes. But in general lower value than a non service one.

Service dial info
Thanks for the info regarding service dial/authenticity.
So a later 70's RED sub could have been fitted with a RED service dial and still be a genuine item (as in the link below) This shows a '78 RED Sub for sale http://www.upperwatches.com/shop/rol...80-feet-first/ Just trying to get as much info as possible as I may be adding one to my collection. Can a RED Sub from the late 70's be sent for check/genuine parts/authenticity/service dial info etc anywhere to be looked over and checked out? |

Don't put too much credence in the descriptions from that shop. They have a 3.9M serial red Sub listed as circa 1975:

My research has turned up that 1680's are believed to have been produced from 1967 to 1973. Production could have started in '66 but virtually all of the Red Subs would have been sold by Official Retailers from 1967 on. There are red service dials as well.
One think to look look for is the serial number of the case. Another is the version of the dial, starting at the MKI and continuing through MKVIII. Mark Lerman has an article about the red sub at dsrd.com. I would encourage anyone interested in the 1680 Red Sub to take a read. Very interesting. Cheers |
