Need AD advise

I have two Ad stores only within a 20 min drive of each other. I been visiting both on a regular basis. I been looking at the 116710 BLNR. They are both across state lines so I could avoid taxes I guess? One said if I put money down they would sell me the next BLNR at $8300.

Three questions:
1. Do I tell the other AD to see if they can beat that price or is that wrong.
2. Are you supposed to report the purchase on your taxes and if so
3. Has anyone get caught on the tax thing or know anyone who has?

Wouldn't worry about the taxes and it never hurts to play one against the other, but you will only be able to take that so far. Most ADs know what the limit is that one could go to, if they are honest AD. I would simply ask" what is the best walk out the door with it now price?" They should give you a decent price and if you don't like it, walk away. Good luck to you!

Don't worry about the taxes. Try 8150-8200.

Yes, you are supposed to report purchases for tax purposes.

That being said, I doubt the vast majority of people buying across state lines do.

If you're driving across state lines to pick it up in person, they'll charge you sales tax. They'll need to ship it to you to avoid sales tax - and if the AD has a location in your state - he's still going to have to charge you sales tax (NEXUS).
I wouldn't worry about the tax issues. If you're buying a BLNR, this purchase probably won't hit the radar based on what you pay in normal sales/use tax each year.

At some point you have to draw the line and say "good enough". You can spend hours and hours hunting a watch - it is a commodity and available from lots of ADs across the country. Is it worth spending 2, 5 or 10 hrs of your time to save another $100?

No comment on taxes but $8300 is not a bad deal at an AD. Of course another $100 or $200 off would be great and I would try. Myself, I wouldn't play the ADs against each other. The one you don't buy from may give you less consideration in the future if you request something popular. In other words, I don't see potentially souring an AD relationship to save a couple hundred bucks which you may not save anyways if they don't budge.

wow. good deal. I live in Chicago. 4 dealers near me has one in stock and none would give any discount. But that was over the phone, not sure if they would in person.
Do you mind sharing the dealer info if I send you a PM?

Don't play each dealer off the other.
Why report the purchase?
Don't sweat the tax.

Buy the watch. That's a great price here in the US. I contacted Goldfinger (authorized Rolex dealer in Sint Marteen) and obtained a price prior to my upcoming cruise. They gave me an out the door price of $8550 and it's duty free. They advised me to call one month prior to arrival and it would be waiting for me upon the ship's arrival.

Is that out the door? Regardless, that's a good price. The AD where I've bought 4 watches over the years lost his AD to the only other high end jewelry shop in the area. I went to the new AD the other day and they are MSRP on everything and that's it. That's fine, so are many others, but they are also very snooty and not down to earth or friendly one bit. This sales person was acting as though she's the CEO of a fortune 500 company.

Just purchased a 126234 Datejust last week for my wife from the AD in Whaler Village/Maui. I asked about shipping to save sales tax. They said they had to insure it for full value to ship and the difference was minimal. We took the immediate gratification route and walked out with it on her wrist with the box a pretty bag. That said, sales tax in Hawaii is almost half of what it is here in California. Also got them to throw in 3 extra plastic/styro shipping boxes.
