I think "Yeah baby. It's a Rolex." should become the TRF secret handshake, suitable for use at any GTG or meet up.

It screams WIS.

After they shared hellos, I overheard her purr, "Ooh, did you get a new watch?" To which he replied, "Yeah baby. It's a Rolex." And like a dog whose attention is piqued by a possible intruder, I felt compelled to turn around and have a peek and yes, he was sporting a TT/DJ.

What made this ordinarily mundane incident kind of funny was when I turned back around, the older man ahead of me was shaking his head as if to say "What an a-hole" and I then noticed that he was wearing what appeared to be an older/vintage-era bubbleback!

While walking out with my cup of Kona/black, I was reflecting on this brief dialogue and came to the conclusion that it might make for an interesting TV/print ad. Whether the conversation took place at an upscale restaurant/bar, a country club or in the depths of an urban ghetto, the response "Yeah baby. It's a Rolex." would be an effective way of enhancing the brand recognition even further.

Then again it might not.

You may be on to something. I could def. see this on a campaign looking to tap in to the younger generation.

I've encountered a dude wearing a fake before say something like that. Only he said: "Of course it's real baby, it don't tick...". Maybe I was a jerk, but I interjected and told him it's a fake. He then was like: "Nah, its iced out!". Needless to say, I did not continue that conversation.

I love that this story features the best kind of Rolex wearer (completely matter-of-fact about it; a good watch is a good watch) and the worst kind of Rolex wearer, which the company now chases, (the crown is the only thing that matters). Let's hope the second group jumps ship to Hublot!

In my Rolex commercial, I'd have the young person sitting in a filthy cubicle in a nameless corporate setting, unshaven, empty cans of energy-drink all over, and glancing at the wall-clock, which has the minute hand missing or detached and the hour hand perilously close to 5 o'clock. Our hero then checks his wrist for the only bright, shiny, and hopeful thing in his joyless universe: his Rolex.

"Rolex. For when you truly want to know what time it is."

A pair of 501s, T-shirt, Wolverine work boots and believe it or not, I had left my 16610/NATO on the night stand this particular morning. So I guess you could say that I was just another 'Joe Blow' standing in line for coffee and catching the drift of the 'upwardly mobile'.

I suppose a lot of things would come into play here, like his body language, annotations in his voice, etc etc. At 68 years old, if somebody said the same thing to me, I might be inclined to give a similar response. A Rolex is a watch that is put on a pedestal by many people, including myself to a degree. Not because of the prestige so much as what the brand has to offer me over all the others.

At any rate, to most people a Rolex is a sign of accomplishment in life. It is a luxury item, and as such I would never take it so seriously as to berate someone on how they react to another person's appreciation or perception of the watch. I love my two Rolex watches, and hope to soon get a gold one. I have always wanted to have a solid gold watch, one that includes a solid gold bracelet. It is an indicator of prestige and achievement for me, and one Hell of a lot of fun. And I can pull it off very well by being proud of it and humble at the same time. If someone makes a similar comment to me, I will be very inclined to say: "Yeah, Baby, it's a solid gold Rolex!"

So, folks, life is short, and let's not take this whole fun hobby of ours too seriously!
