Vintage Rolex Turn o graph help
After being offered that franken 5513, i think this one looks like the real deal unless our more knowledgeable members can spot a red flag.
The crystal on the watch is cracked severely and the case seem to have been polished before. Any comment would be appreciated. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Is the bezel supposed to have a pip in the red triangle?

Now I don't have the watch in my hand...but...from all that I can see it is the same run that mine came from. I don't think the matte dials turn that color. It looks to be in pretty good shape....
If it's gloss gilt trit early service and not matte...It's probably worth more than the watch without it all by itself I would think at this point. |

A nice handset would also be hard to source and costly.

Every time I see one of those dials...I kind of jump. I remember when I found mine and I paid...dearly for it...even though the market was crashed. A well known collector trader was bailing out of it. I'm sure he paid more than I paid him for it. I later found the source, for mine and a couple of others that had been found NOS in factory envelopes. They had all 3 turned that brown with varying degrees of "bursting". Obviously if those turned then some others from the era did as well. Turn O Graphs are comparatively rare anyway. Service dials are pretty rare too, gilt or matte. The watch was never popular. Mine was 5 years old sitting in the ship store in Inchon in 59...the last Rolex in the case. Nobody really wanted them. I think when preserved well they are very cool watches.

Does $30k sound extravagant for this particular watch?

Yes....the bezel insert and hands are quite cost prohibitive.
That's way more than I would consider even remotely for that particular one. |

You may need a Tropic 10 crystal for your 6202.

OP, i'm sure you thought of this, but if you got money burning a hole in your pocket, you might consider getting to know one of the extraordinary vintage sellers on this forum. you won't get a "steal," but you'll understand what you're getting -- and not getting, and you'll get it at mkt value.

Vintage Rolex Turn o graph help
The FMV for a cobbled vintage piece is virtually impossible to accurately determine at a distance. There are so many variables and we haven't even addressed the topic of the innards, etc.
If your goal is originality in a vintage piece, I agree with the earlier comment to focus on trusted, well-versed vintage dealers here on TRF. Otherwise you're swimming with sharks while bleeding...just my 2¢

There is no pip, it's just a divot filled with radium or tritium.
It falls out pretty fast/ |

Very Nice! Love the hand variations...they were searching in 53...Sometimes you get the big bubble seconds...with pencil...sometimes the bubble at the tip. Just great stuff.

I'll put in my 2 cents ....and go against the tide:
to me with a a service dial, tropical or not, is still not the OEM dial, so even if it looks better than a real swiss gilt dial (those normally turn matt with age and are not as attractive), is still not original and is not worth anything but a lower price. and yes the insert is aftermarket, and band is gone, so what are you left with? a case ? @Matdaytona's is much better :) |
