Is this worth polishing/fixing?

Hello everyone,
Not sure how I did this but there is a pretty noticeable scratch along the polished side on the case of my Submariner. It's not deep but pretty noticeable, especially in sunlight. I know that scratches and what not add character to the watch and I'm fine with that in general, just didn't know if this is worth doing something about. I also didn't know if since this was on a polished part of the case if it would be harder to do something about and keep that brilliant polish that Rolex achieved on the case. Appreciate your thoughts, happy Sunday!

Your call. I had a deeper but shorter scratch and decided to let it go. If it bothers you, I'd have it taken out. It's not the usual desk dive that puts some guys in a tizzy.

At least you can tell it's yours in a crowd!
Seriously though I recommend waiting a month or so and seeing if it still bothers you.
There's no hurry to get it polished. That can be done at service time.

Give it a week. Scratches always look worse when first noticed. After a few days or so, you won't even notice it is there.

I'd cape cod it. It won't ruin that rolex shine really. Just buff the hell out of it.

Yeah I'd have to have a go at that. Mask the rest of the watch up and go at it! Focus on reducing it rather than making it disappear. Stop when happy then look after your watch!

I would leave it for now - perhaps wait a week or so and see how you feel. I've had a similar experience and as it turns out - I quit caring - YMMV. It looks like it would be relatively easy to get out if it truly bugs you after a bit. I do feel your pain though :)

I have one that's shorter but deeper, one the same lug/face. Some days I want it buffed out. Most days it doesn't' bother me-I figure it will be removed when I have the watch serviced.

Of course it's worth polishing...just not until it needs service in my opinion.

This. It's nothing major. Will look better after you get some more. Saving you a couple of steps in between of stress if you can embrace this.

I like it! I have a small abrasion on my SD from a couple summers ago when my daughter and I were hiking and we decided to take a swim in a mountain stream. I slipped and caught my self scraping my SD bracelet. At the time a little annoyed but now a great battle mark memory of playing with my young daughter on a Saturday in summer. There are a few other character marks but I don't know how I got them.

Unless you're using it for a mirror, I'd leave it alone.

A couple minutes with a Cape Cod cloth will minimize the scratch without removing very much metal at all. That's what I would do, and then just have it taken care of fully when it has its first service.

I might be tempted to polish that one out especially knowing full well you are going to polish it out someday. Why let a "I see it every day" scratch take away from your enjoyment? Of course No One Else will ever notice that scratch.

That said, I've never polished a watch because of a scratch. I just accept we live in these pieces and they are going to get scratched (and dented too). My heirs can deal with it.

The one exception. I had a watch engraved many years ago. Life changes. The engraving is no longer relevant and preventing the watch from being worn. Hmm. Can't sell it engraved. Still like it, can't wear it engraved. Let's try polishing it out myself with 1200 grit paper and polish - heart beating and being super careful not to soften any lines. It works!!!!

Now I have reclaimed watch I like and can wear it again, or sell.

Point is, scratches (and even engraving) can be fixed and really, no one will know (or care) so if the scratch bothers you, fix it.

Prediction: if this really is a keeper watch you live your life in you won't fix it a next time. the watch will just age with you as it should - scratches, dents and all.

Cheers.
