116710 double buy

Hi guys,

I've been in love for the Rolex mystique two years from now, I worked hard, and came to the conclusion that the time has come to acquire my first one. I recently went to the Rolex boutique where my father-in-law bought his 116503 and 16610ln (now gifted to my girlfriend) and showed him the GMT-Master II 116710LN which I want to buy and he kind of fell in love with it.. So, long story short he told me he would buy one for him also and we would do it together, so we are now waiting for a few offers from different ADs.

The real dilemma appeared when he told me he is going for the BLNR, so I decided to start browsing the internet, and watching all kind of reviews and guess what, i'm divided between the LN and the BLNR.. The LN was the first one I tried (at the Dubai airport), so it kinda has a special flavour to me. On the other hand, the batman has that little extra something that makes it even more special, although I never saw it in person..

Now, my girlfriend tells me that the BLNR is somehow limited, "you'r not gonna wear a green shirt with a blue watch", "for your first watch you should get the LN, it's more classy, it will be timeless", "my father can afford a less versatile watch because it will be his third rolex"... but at the same time she said the key phrase: "well, if you decide for the BLNR you can use my sub whenever yours doesn't match your outfit, and i'll take the batman" hmm, that's awesome however she's not the careful type of person so..

Since it will be my first one, these kind of first world problems arise so I'm requesting your most wise thoughts!

Also, what discount do you think I should expect for buying the two at the same time ?

Thank you !

BLNR works as a one and only watch, you won't get any discount. What is the wait for BLNR in Portugal? I was in Lisbon and cascais 3 weeks ago and stock levels where good saw subs and gmts

Well, the lady at the AD told us she would offer a little incentive and when we asked her, "what if we buy two" she even said she would deliver the watches to our house, so I'm expecting a good offer (i know they are SS models and that they don't get discounted that often). We are still waiting for her email though.

Regarding the waiting times, she said that if we order now she could get them for Christmas. Let's see!

Anyway, in my case what do you think would be the wisest decision ?

If you prefer the BLNR then get that one and don't worry about matching it with clothes, if your G/F really is a SWMBO and wants matching only then get rid of your green and red shirts, I'm sure they don't look too sharp anyway.

The LN. Classy, and goes with everything.

I've never had a blnr on and said hmm this doesn't work with my outfit. It's extremely versatile.

Discounts are so regional it's hard to say.

Get the watch YOU want and don't give a second thought to anything else. If you do, you'll be forever thinking about the one that got away.

I actually prefer the LN to the BLNR...but that's me.

I would get BLNR, but as far as a discount, I think you'll get the delivery and nothing more :)

do you have a wife and a girlfriend on the side? or you are just calling your girlfriend's dad "father in law" already.

It's a win-win situation here. I got the LN for it's versatility and can also assure you (like the others point out) the BLNR is one heck of a versatile piece, too. I totally understand your concern, though.

Since the LN will be easier to find, get the BLNR if you can justify doing so. If for some really strange reason (doubtful) you wanted to sell or trade it after it gives you more leverage value wise.

The LN is a little more versatile, and different from your father-in-law's BLNR.

Also there will be a shorter wait for one of each at the same shop than two the same I suspect.

Having faced the same choice of which to buy, I went for the LN. No regrets at all.

I personally think your girlfriend is the real winner in this whole scenario. I'd take the 16610 and call it a day.

The blnr is equally versatile as the LN. Really, it depends on what you want and don't trust the pics. Try a blnr on. You will know one way or the other as soon as you do. For some the blue is great, for others less so. I am in the latter camp, and could not be more happy with my LN.

The blue in the BLNR is so discrete that you don't need to worry about your outfit. Heck, today I'm wearing brown pants and a green shirt, and the BLNR works just fine.

Buy what you want.

And hey, if the girlfriend wants to wear your watch, then you can drive the Porsche.

Just got a reply from the AD, seems like the batman has 0% discount, according to another AD which I contacted today they said these are Rolex instructions. Anyway, the lady can do 10% off the LN, seems like a good discount right? This just made the whole decision harder, everybody pushing me to the LN and i’m here thinking about the BLNR. If I had seen the BLNR and tried it, i would definetely have an answer, decisions these days...

Go BLNR it makes sense, it is just as versatile as LN. The discount doesn't mean anything really as the LN will loose money as soon as you strap on. The BLNR will hold and even sell for higher price in some European counties. You obviously want the BLNR more so don't make the mistake and go with LN as you will see your father in laws and only wish

Don’t buy the discount, buy the watch you want. LN Is outstanding. The BLNR bezel and the PCL’s don’t work well together IMO. But the combination is perfect on the LN.

I'm with JRT above. I've had my BLNR for a few years and am never going to sell it.
There is way more colour on it than the LN but when you are any kind of distance away they both look like black Rolexes really.
I had an easy decision 'cos blue is my fave colour but Eric Clapton looks good in his LN!
No wrong decision..go with your feelings. they're a GREAT daily Rolex, both.

116710 double buy

I'd say the LN is 99% versatile (minus 1% for PCL's) and the BLNR is 97% versatile (1% for PCL's and 2% for the blue bezel) so if you like the BLNR and you can live with 97% go for it!

Also in regards to 0% discounts being a demand from Rolex, that's bogus. You still may not find an AD who will offer you a discount but it's entirely not true that it's a Rolex mandate.

Buy the watch you want ...the one that speaks to you. Don't buy based on price or suggestion, but rather on what speaks to you personally.

I think if you get the LN you're going to like it, but now that you're aware of the BLNR you're going to wonder if you made the right choice. While the blue on 1/2 the bezel might seem like a minor difference, in person the two watches look very different.

Others have given you the advice to buy the watch you want most, not to buy the price. That's the best advice that has been given and will serve you well.

Best of luck.
