At what point have you guys moved on from Rolex.

Every since I've joined TRF with my 116688, I have enjoyed and envied seeing so many cool Rolex watches owned by you guys. The past few years I've acquired or flipped pretty much the whole line and it's hit the point where the oyster case just doesn't do it for me anymore. I've noticed I kinda push myself to wear them lately just so they won't collect dust.

Since then I've moved on to different brands and the such to keep the juices flowing. Big fan of AP and Patek, hoping to jump into ALS next. I tried to do the RM, but after wearing one it was DOA for me.

Anyways, for the members who have gone through this what did you do? Consolidate? Sell off? Sit on it?

I have tried to move on, but always seem to come back to the crown. For me, those were expensive lessons. At the end of the day, I just like Rolex as it suits my lifestyle and budget.

I keep trying to love a dress watch, and certainly love the looks of some PP and ALS, but I just do not really have the need for one. Everytime I try one, I end up flipping at a loss.

If I am wearing a sport watch anyways might as well be Rolex.

I am in a lull with watches right now. For the first time in 10+ years, I am not lusting after or even really looking to add anything. I guess I am content with my set for now.

Over the years, I have gone through a few different patterns. Tried to have a Rolex model from each of my favorites, did the vintage thing for a while, tried to diversify with different brands...

At what point have you guys moved on from Rolex.

I went through a similar situation although I’ve generally had stainless models.

Two years ago I flipped my last Rolex, an lvc, towards a ceramic diver and I thought I’d be set.

Here was my lineup

Within 10 days I missed the extreme versatility and imho superior aesthetic of a Rolex sports model.

I ran out and bought my 116600 which I still have.

Admittedly I flip too much. I think Ill probably get another aquanaut and I was banking on Patek releasing a new 5711 for the 40th but of course that never happened.

Getting back to the point. Ill never lose my interest in Rolex. They have timeless designs that can’t be beat and they fit my lifestyle.

Have not and will not. Subc for life.

However recent tudor advances have left me looking at tudor more often than rolex.

I'll always have at least 1 or 2 Rolex. They are a good watch and pretty much suit me to a T

I do appreciate the other brands as well

Thinking of moving onto a Grand Seiko for my next sports watch.
Fly's under the radar which is better for some work situations. I like the idea of a stealth watch that only really appeals to watch geeks as well.

Moved on? Doubt that will ever happen. Like many here I've added diversity to the lineup.

Panerai, AP and JLC thus far. Still wear a Rolex 80% of the time.

I got rid of my datejust and sub date. I've had panerai, bell & ross, girard perregeux, smaller boutique brands like clerc, and went back to a Rolex. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I bought a 5 digit sea dweller and refuse to part with it.

I've had something similar happen to me. So much out there to experience and appreciate but each time I came right back. Rolex represents the perfect balance for me. It can't hurt to have a few AP's in the mix to give you some veriety. You'll feel refreshed after a while but no doubt do what feels best at the moment for you.

I've sold off most of my Rolex's but i do feel like every true collection needs at least one. To me they are great watches and are very dependable but i prefer the designs of other brands far more like AP, PP, ALS. Rolex is very "plain" and i don't think there is anything wrong with that at all, i just don't want a collection full of them.

I will add a sky dweller at some point though as that is a unique watch from Rolex IMO. It isn't like your typical sub, sea dweller, yacht master, GMT, DSSD which tend to look pretty similar to me after a while and have pretty much the same complications. Its a bit more casual than a DJ so its a winner in my book.

Moved to another "higher end brand" once....came back to...all Rolex...all the time, within a month. Just fits my preferences/lifestyle so well

On my fourth Rolex within the last year right now and I'm struggling to love it. It's time to branch out and see what other brands have to offer - I do hope to come back to Rolex sooner than later.

I have moved on a few times.

I have made every effort to move on.

I have failed.

I do have a few Omegas that I like very much. But I tried PP and AP, and IWC, and so many other brands it is hard to keep up with my own self.

I always come back. The "go anywhere, do anything" of a Rolex just suits me better than anything else. They just fit my lifestyle better.

If I ever successfully move on, it will likely be for a Tag or and Oris or something simple. I would be surprised if I moved onto something "better".

Rolex just suits me. Went through many brands, and spent a good deal of money to reach this conclusion, and don’t envision I will change my mind.

There'll be no moving on for me, except in the case of some catastrophe.

Whatever happens, I'm sure that I'll always have at least one.

I have plenty of other watches to keep me occupied when I feel like stepping out of the box a little.

I always come back to Rolex, though.

I'm kind of in a similar place as Mark (Droptopman) right now. Not really wanting anything, really NOT needing anything and thrilled with my stainless watches. Tried the classic of the classic gold dress watch but just doesn't fit my lifestyle now. Tempted by ALS too but passed. So for me there's no moving on - the stainless sports Rolexes will always be the cornerstone of my collection and wearing rotation.

If anything tempts me away from my GMT2 it will NOT be an AP. Never liked 'em. As for PP, there may be one or two models that are just ok for me, but I'm not in love with any of them either.

I do enjoy some Omegas. Speedmasters in particular. But I also have had and continue to admire Seamasters.

My collection includes every modern piece that excites me now.

I've ventured out to JLC, Omega and Tudor for some other modern pieces that excite me.

Now i am carefully building my collection around vintage pieces. Its a huge minefield, a very steep learning curve and especially hard to find good watches.

So my passion lives on

Very true.

It is an interesting journey though, as long as I don't get in too deep.

The thing about vintage is that what was once very ordinary can become quite extraordinary with time.

There are many fine brands I’d like to own, but will always have a Rolex in the collection. At the moment I only have one and think I need another...

I’ve had a couple Panerai and an IWC. Always went back to Rolex. I’d like to own a JLC Reverso someday.

I had that feeling when I got my JLC. I felt I had cheated on Rolex. I eventually came back to Rolex. Never flipped though.

When a sub msrp was $8500 and it had fat lugs and shiny ceramic bezel. Tried a dssd to stay in the family but like most others flipped it. I picked up a speedy, a few others and got into Tudor.

I will get back to Rolex but it will be 5 digit sport models. Mainly 14060 and 16600.
