Omega >> Tudor

Tudor is like a Hyundai Genesis. It may look nice but it’s still a Hyundai.

Tudor should have its own sub-forum. They're so different, don't even have the same name, movements, cases, marketed differently....don't understand why they intentionally group them here with Rolex which is higher tier watch. Nothing again Tudor but...

I think there’s room for a more nuanced discussion here. From a horological perspective I think omega with their implementation of the co-axial escapement is far superior to what Tudor is doing with their new movements. But from a design perspective... is there a case housing that interesting movement you want to look at on a daily basis? My opinion is that Tudor’s designs have been much more appealing, especially over the past 7 years or so since their restart here in the US.

And cause we love pictures, here’s my BB36 on a Bulang and sons caramel leather strap

As much as I think omega is above Tudor, I think omega has completely messed up their brand. Too many so called limited editions. And tons of variations of the same watch.

I have to agree Tudor is the King of the sub $4K watch.
Tudor Pepsi and BB chrono are 2 examples of great watches for the price.

Yeah, thank heavens Rolex only offer 67 pages of DJ options...

Choice and differentiation are good, only “collectors” afraid their watch won’t be as prestigious at the next GTG worry about there being too many versions or a “cooler” newer version of theirs coming out....

Omega is HEAPS better.

Look at the new Planet Oceans Compared to a Black Bay. Kills it out of the water. In person holding both next to each other the beauty of the Omega clearly outshines the Tudor.

The important thing to remember here is that Tudor doesn't want to be at Omega's level. Omega aspires to be Rolex-tier, while Tudor is intentionally positioned downmarket so as not to overlap with Rolex.

I really like a lot of Tudor's designs, but on a technical level Omega is objectively well above. I just wish Omega's fancy new movements were thinner -- a lot of their recent watches are pucks.

Also, they put out way too many LEs and variants of their core watches. However, for the designs they nail, they're a great brand.
Wow.. great explanation.

Tudor on same level as omega?

Thanks for the great reply’s. I figured as much. I know omega has a very rich history being the moon watch and all. But I think Tudor as a brand has made leaps and bounds in the more recent watches. I was just wondering in terms of level exactly where do people rank Tudor.

Honest question for you guys... I’m leaning ever so slightly one way, but interested to hear your thoughts.

Previous generation Seamaster Professional ceramic with 2500D caliber OR Black Bay 58?

I know one is vintage inspired and both are solid...but which would you choose and why?

Technically superior. That's a funny one. The co-axial movement has not proven itself to be technically superior at all to an MT calibre.

I think that the fit and finish is better on the Omegas. From many other perspectives they are equal imho. Fit and finish really are what define much of the watch hierarchy.

For movement I would have to say Omega....for presentation, marketing, and design.....Tudor. look at what the relaunch of tudor has done for tudor vintage models in the last 4 years....double to triple the price.....omega....soft recently but up about 50% during same period. I have a 145.022 don in epic shape but I prefer the black bay....

Or me tudor out ranks omega and longines don't come into it..

And my reason is as mentioned
Too many LE watches.
And I prefere tudor which is in the correct market and pricing range for the buyer it's aimed at.

I own both. Tudor has made great, new innovative designs. Omega keeps trying to milk the same three watches to death with 1,000 different limited editions.

Hell even the new Tudor movements are outpacing Rolex. I applaud Tudor for taking risks and finding new paths, while staying true with the new BB58 vintage super star.

Unless Omega can give me +/-1 sec per week accuracy that my Tudor GMT gives me, I’m not buying “the co-axial movement is better” argument.

You need to compare the exact watches that you are considering, comparing brands are completely different stories.

I’m my opinion, Omega and Tudor can’t be compared.

Whilst I dislike the way Omega roll out too many models of each of their watches, the build quality of what they do manufacture these days is giving Rolex a run for their money.

And, I don’t see/hear as many complaints about QC.

Not sure if Tudor is on the same level as Omega but when I handled the BB58 and the new Seamaster Diver 300m - I preferred the BB58 in terms of look and feel.

owning several from both brands I would NOT say Omega is better

A standard speedy professional is not better than the Tudor Chrono
And a black bay is not less than a seamaster

Ofcourse if You compare a co-axial 12K chrono to a 5K Tudor .... It would be a shame for omega if the Tudor was at the same level

but at the same price and similar watches I believe Tudor is the best option ... and even best watch
Tudor just doesn't make 10-20K watches

Tudor can equal most of the Swiss brands including Rolex, many today just wear the brand and not the watch.

Thats almost 100% true. Most people wouldn't know the difference between a Coaxial movement vs a ETA movement.

People just see "Rolex" on the dial and that's it - it MUST be the best.

And because of Tudor's close relationship with Rolex then Tudor "must" be better than IWC, Omega, Panerai etc....but in reality and comparing the actual horology and complications there are some great pieces from other brands in the lower bracket that make far superior watches than a Tudor.

I believe many are making their decision based on the aesthetic look of the watch, which is understandable.

Omega has such a rich history that Tudor simply cannot match!

IMHO, I believe if Tudor wasn’t so closely connected to Rolex, the love we are seeing in this thread would not be even remotely as strong.

I completely agree.

The Tudor MT5402 is 4.9mm thick and has a Silicone hairspring, free sprung adjustable mass balance wheel, 70 hour power reserve and is Chrono rated at +4/-2.

Omega's latest 8900 Master Chronometer movements are 5.5mm thick and have a 60 hour reserve achieved by a lower beat rate. Other specs are similar. Movement certainly has a lot more gimmicks with it's twin barrels and coaxial escapement but that doesn't appear to have any real world advantage over Rolex/Tudor in-house designs.

My anecdotal experience with earlier Coaxial movements was not great so I'm admittedly jaded. My only Omega now is a Speedy Pro with a 60 year old movement design.

Obviously Omega is more cutting edge with their ceramic case tech and other innovations, but these watches cost many times more than your typical Tudor, which is artificially held to a price point below Rolex.
