I have a buddy that we make fun of because he buys dozens of watches including some Rolex he’s had and continues to wear, all black dials. The ratio of white dial vs black dial watches in the world must be interesting.

I think that Daytona looks classier on a white dial, and given the fact that you can always get other models that the best dial comes in black, I think you should go with the white.

I have black and white, but if I only had to keep one it would be white, without a second's hesitation

I’m reviving this thread because I have the same choice to make. I’ve always been drawn to black dials and all of my current pieces are black. But I do want to add a white dial for some variation. I’m going back and forth and will only know when I walk out of the AD on Saturday.
I know many feel that this is a silly problem to have, but when you get one shot at one of these the stakes go up!

100% the white dial for the ceramic model.

But I'd pick the black one for the steel bezel old model.

Not a big Daytona lover but if ceramic I'd go black ceramic 100%. More elegant, more versatile, and not necessarily less sporty than white ceramic which looks almost a little cartoonish in my eyes. White Zenith is a different story though.

I just was lucky enough to get the white one 2 weeks ago. All my other watches are black dial and 1 blue dial so I definitely wanted the white one and I love the fact that I went with the white one.

I bought one of each 116520s in 2007 and parted ways with the white dial.

Did the same in 2002 with a pair 16570..Also let the white one go.

In other words, get the white one!

This is so true.

Both watches are stunning but the white is a picture watch while the black is a in person watch. I have the black.

Thanks all. This thread underscores the difficulty in choosing. I was never interested in the Daytona but wanted to add a Chrono to my collection. I went in to my AD a few months ago to get another piece sized and he was wearing the Black. He let me try it on and I finally ‘got it’ in terms of the draw.
I went back the next day and humbly asked to be considered for one, telling him I’d take either white or black as I’d be thrilled with either.
He called me last night and said I could choose as he had both-and no he won’t give me both…I almost wish he only had one version as it would take the decision out of my hands…

Go in and put them on your wrist. You will know. I have always been drawn to black dial watches and have to work to put other dial colors in the collection. I own both the black and the white and will say either works well. Good luck and no bad choice.

I've got both the white & black ceramics & my pick out of the 2 would be the white. It just pops & I find it more visually striking that the black, which flies better under the radar, but it still gorgeous in its own right.

What did you (or when do you need to) decide?

If you have a lot of other black dial Rolex, I would choose the white to add some diversity to the watch box.

Good luck and look forward to seeing your choice.

There are too many black dial Rolexes and barely any white, let alone white that looks as good as the Daytona so just for the sake of uniqueness the white wins. In my opinion the black dial sub looks better than the black dial Daytona so having a black dial Submariner and a white dial Daytona is the perfect combo.
