How to respond to an AD that wants your Rolex

Saw this on another well known watch site: credit to user “Karwath”.

“I stopped in an AD yesterday to get an unusual bracelet sized for an older watch.

While I was waiting, the SA noticed I was wearing a very "in demand" Rolex sports model. He asked if I was interested in selling it.

I politely said I was not interested in selling.

The temptation to ask them if they have ever purchased anything from me before, and then tell them I would put them on the waitlist, or maybe tell them I have a bunch of old jewelry my wife doesn't wear anymore that I want to sell and that could help move them up the list, was almost too much to resist!”

I’ll have to use that line! I have a couple five digits that have gotten similar comments from ADs.

I would have leveraged your watch to the AD for another "in demand" watch. You could have cut the line on the waitlist lol

I have noticed that some ADs are trying to get into preowned biz. Not sure if just to supplement income given slow supply or if proactive shift in case they lose their AD.

This is awesome. Might need to see their passport and hold the warranty card for a year.

You should ask that they make a qualifying purchase from you and provide you with several gifts for your consideration.

How would anyone respond well with your own common sense, you either want to sell or you dont what could be simpler. ADs are just normal people just like yourself and like all people should be treated with the same respect.

I’d ask them for a deposit then tell them you’re pretty sure they will receive it within 1 to 2 years.

Funny. It is all about the watches so in the end I might have asked what they would do.

Tell them you will put them on the list, but a purchase history with you would help.

Need to clean out your garage or home? Have a yard sale and invite the AD staff so that they can start their purchase history
