New Submariner owner
Hi this is my first post at this forum and my English is not so good so be patient.
I just graduate from high school and my dad bought me brand new Rolex Submariner. I'm a happy new owner =) When i first time looked my new rolex i noticed something odd on my dial.Last two characters are kind a blurry and u can't even notice that there should be a D. I immediately contacted Rolex dealer here in Finland and toked my Rolex there. They where amazed, they have never seen anything like that before. They where very sorry that this was happened and they told me that they will order new dial for me. Clocksmith said that this is VERY rare and i could make some money for this. What you guys think? I'm very surprised Rolex allowed that to happen. Those damn naughty Swiss!

Welcome to TRF
Certainly interesting. Do you have a picture of the whole watch? And the dial? |

If the advise is correct, I would sell it for a profit, then buy one that is correct.

I see the picture in the website. HEck, maybe it is like a rare "error" baseball card. I just got the error card with Derek Jeeter of the Yankees standing at bat with Mickey Mantle in the Dugout and President Bush in the audience. I can assure you that card was NOT supposed to go out like that. maybe yo have a rare "error" Rolex.....

Welcome to the forum and your dad is numero uno for getting you a fantastic watch. When you say "clockboard" I'm assuming its the dial?

I guess that Rolex REALLY wanted to stress the point that this is in fact a "Certified (series) D".

Welcome to TRF, Otus.
That is an unbelievably glaring printing error on the part of Rolex. How that dial ever got past Rolex Quality Control I'll never understand. Hope it's all sorted out soon. Cheers - JJ

First, congratulations on getting a new Submariner. Can't say that I have even heard of anything like this happening with Rolex before. Anyway, it sounds like the dealer will fix it, so you are OK. Would someone pay extra to own a Rolex with a printing error? Maybe, but I am not sure that would be a rare feature worth paying extra for. I think I would happilly accept the dealers offer to get you a new dial and then enjoy. Good luck!

Congrats!! What an awesome graduation present, and your english is GREAT!!
My only concern with keeping the defective dial is that I think it would create some questions about the authenticity of the watch later on. Granted you would have all the papers, receipts, etc but still...I think it would raise questions that you don't need to be answering. Take the new dial and wear your watch in good health! |

Hi Otus, welcome aboard. Don't worry about your English, it's fine.
That Sub is a wonderful graduation present. Did you get to keep the original error dial?
