New member and two days with a new style GMT II

Hello everyone.

I have been lurking here for a while and finally dicided to post a little about me and my new SS GMT II.

I've been accumulating Rolex watches since 1999 when I purchased my first, a SS Sub. Since then I have been fortunate enough to acquire a modest collection that also includes a LV Sub, a Datejust with Roman/rhodium dial, a SS GMT II with black/red bezel, and finally a "new style" GMT II. At one time there was also a Seadweller and white faced Explorer II, both of which I decided were not for me, and were sold on "another" Rolex forum.

June 5th I called the local AD where my other watches were purchased, and asked when a new style GMT would arrive. I was told that this was their first inquiry and one would be ordered for me. The next day, June 6th, the AD calls with bad news, your watch won't arrive until September. Oh no! I guess I'll have to wait. June 19th the AD calls again, come get your watch! Woo-hoo!

I reach the AD in record time and was handed a green box containing a beautiful new style SS GMT. AD shows me the packing slip, it was shipped from Rolex New York on June 12th. He had no explanation --other than luck. Sold! I was given a 7% discount on the sale, because I'm a loyal customer and I always pay in cash (the only watch they didn't give me a break on was my Green Sub).

This watch is outstanding. Perfect. Far exceeds my expectations.

In 2 days it has not lost or gained a second (this is a first for me with a Rolex).

The clasp and bracelet look and function beautifully.

My wrist is almost 8 inches around. With the bracelet adjusted to the last position and the extension link folded in the fit is perfect for me.

The ceramic bezel looks great with the maxi dial.

The ROLEX/ROLEX/ROLEX engraving around the dial is not at all distracting

It came with the hologram sticker(which I removed as soon as I got home) and the paper warranty paperwork (not the new plastic warranty card).

That's about all for now

Thanks for your attention and this excellent forum,

Mennald

Mennald......awesome man

Congratulations on the new GMT, I'm very interested to hear impressions about the watch from new owners who have experienced it first hand. Sounds like it is a winner as far as you are concerned

I'm trying to decide if it is a watch for me. Sounds like you have got a pretty good collection going. I'm wondering if the new GMTII is particularly noticable as being too weighty in the watch head, or whether it feels balanced on the wrist. With the new polished bracelet and ceramic bezel it really seems to have quite a bit bling.

Congrats on a great watch.
Hope Rolex issues one with a red 24 hour hand. Hoping for a pepsi bezel option as well. Hoping I can afford a new GMT II in the future.
Wear it in good health,
dP

I'm speechless- you have the bases covered. Now a WG day date with ice blue dial would round it out perfectly! Which is your current favorite?

I guess my current favorite would have to be the new GMT. Before that one showed up it was the red/black GMT, its very confortable.

I would love to have a WG DD (maybe even yellow gold), I just think I would be overly concerned with scratches and dings on something that expensive and good looking. It has taken me years to get over my OCD with scratches on the SS watches!

Mennald, what a impressive collection of watches and your pictures were rigth on time. I am new to the forum also and have found it to be very helpful. Today I had the unexpected pleasure of seeing the new SS GMT II at my AD, however, it is being held for someone so I couldn'd buy and it is gorgeous. You are a head of the collection game. Enjoy!!!!!!!!

Well after wearing my new GMT for 6 hours or so I can confirm that it does not feel heavy or unbalanced - in fact I am amazed at how comfortable it does feel, I was kinda expecting it to feel like a lead weight but with a proper fitting of the strap it feels natural!!
