Expressed as a percentage? Just curious.

Are you going to keep the GMT hand set on local NZ time?

Congrats by the way.

Steve
Percentage wise, fairly good. Way off the list price....a very good deal indeed!!

And, yes, the RED hand will always be set to local time!!

There are only TWO ADs in Auckland - one on 125 Queen Street in downtown Auckland....and the other is Partridge Jewellers on 197 Broadway, Newmarket!!

Well, Allan, I was seriously tossing up between the two....but in the end, that damn SIZE factor did really matter. I somehow don't think I could live too long with the 36 mm....knowing myself all too well!!

The new Explorer with that white face looks very elegant and the bezel certainly sets it apart from the other sports Rolex. It's a good counterpart to the blue sub. (Which is still one of the best looking Rolex, I think)

Congrats JJ! I really like the Exp's, and one of these days I hope to pick one up (even more hopefully, a cream dial or better yet, a fat 24 handed one!) - but if push comes to shove, and something just forces me to buy one, you can bet on it being a whiteface like yours :)

Hi JJ,

Looking at the cracking pictures of your new Explorer II I notice that the crown wheel is quite a bit thinner than on other Rolex watches. Is this just to give the crown a new look or is it a specific design feature?

Apologies if this has been asked before.

Hi Richard,

That's the TWINLOCK crown on the Exp-II making the watch waterproof to 100 m.

Quite small as compared with the TRIPLOCK crown of the Sub waterproof to 300 m!!

Thanks both for the lead. I've filed it away for my next trip... but it won't be for 2-3 years I guess.

Thanks JJ. Interesting, you would have thought that it would have been just as easy for Rolex to implement the Triplock mechanism, taking into account that it should be easier and cheaper to manufacture one type of crown tube.

For interests sake, what is the third level of protection offered by the Triplock over the Twinlock?

Great pics by the way!

Richard,

The TRIPLOCK crown has the additional 'O'-ring protective seal around the stem. You can see this when you unscrew the crown....and is indicated by THREE dots under the crown. The TWINLOCK has just a small dash under the crown.
