Icon5 Are we out of our minds??

I just bought a brand new SS SUBMARINER W/DATE 5000.00 dollars. I got home and thought about it and said out loud I must be out of my mind. Has anyone else had these thoughts about spending this much money on a watch?? Let me know please

Yeah, I feel like that sometimes.

I've bought 4 SS Rolex in the last 3 months & keep thinking what else could I have bought with that money.

But I'm not in debt to anyone so what the hell, I'm gonna buy what makes me happy!

You are not alone. I sometimes still think it although I haven't had mine that long. However, I think that everyone has something that they are willing to spend a lot of $$ on that others might not understand. Buyers remorse is fleeting but your Rolex is timeless or something like that.

Absolutely...I am purchasing 2 rolex's in 2 week (1 a week lol)...A dd blue vignette @ the AD and my daytona (which is already paid for) is coming via DHL friday...After these 2 im not buying a new watch for a year, at least probbably a few years..Now i'll be a slave to american express for the next few months paying these 2 watches off...When they offered me a platinum card and I said yes, that was probbably the worst decision I ever made...

I think that all the time. But you get what you pay for. A Rolex is not just a watch, it represents craftmanship, beautiful design, timeless style, brilliant heritage. Just like a Ferrari. It's more than just a car, so is Rolex more than just a watch...

Since I am not religious I use my overindulgence of Rolex watches to give me my fix of guilt.

I've heard that some of the nuts on this forum have more than one Rolex, and some have several.. imagine that....

I mean, really....how many ways do you need to tell the time ?

I sometimes feel guilty and think of how all that money I just spent could have helped people in need of just a meal...

There are times that i think other people would not understand how could i spend 10K on a watch and think that its stupid. Then there are the times that I am glad they don't understand and thats most of the time. And i come here to TRF, and i feel at home. Thank You all for being like me and understanding where I'm coming from.

Hang on to the Rolex and after a price increase or two on the new ones, yours will seem like a bargain! I think of my SD which I got BNIB for $4,200 before the last increase and it seems like a steal now.

The key is to get the watch you want. I had many I didn't like after awhile and that sucked.

I am so glad you started this thread!

I went through the same mental self-examination myself when I bought my brand new z-series 16610 SS Sub Date from my local AD in June.

The way I rationalized it was, yes, it's ridiculously expensive and probably overpriced, BUT, I rarely treat myself to things like this, it isn't going to get any cheaper, and why not get it now and enjoy it for decades to come? That's how I talked myself OUT of getting an Omega Seamaster Professional -- it appeared to be the better price/performance choice but somehow I knew I would always regret not stepping up to a Rolex.

I have plenty invested in stocks, bonds, real estate, etc., and handing over US$5,200 cash is not a burden so why not just RELAX and indulge myself for once?

I still feel a bit self-conscious about it but this does fade over time and I do treasure my beautiful, timeless Rolex Submariner -- and you should, too!

When I buy a Rolex I pay cash, and nothing else in my life suffers because of it. The family is well taken care of and the wife is happy........

.......so I do not get buyer remorse after a big purchase.

Wait until you have to pay 500.00 every few years just to keep it running.

I am glad that my wife is understanding. She was the one who told me that i should get the one one that i want. She also said when spending that kind of money you buy from an AD. My wife is happy that I am Happy and i love her for it. She is truely rare

Mike, did you have to tell the poor guy that, he feels bad enough!
Anyhow, you can't get anything better than a new sub date, but it cost $5000. Good thing you didn't buy a new $20000 DD. Enjoy the sub for many years ahead.

Short answer is yes.

But if you can afford it, the kids have clothes, the family has food and bills are paid I see no problems with it.

But I have to go now as I have to carry the kids since they don't have shoes, to the dumpster so I can look for dinner that we eat by candlelight since the electricity is turned off.
