Got the call

New AD, that a buddy introduced me to about two months ago, called with a 43mm Sea Dweller for me. Timing is not really good right now (having the house painted this week, plus the 16th was tax day) but think I'll grab it so I'm not off the list I just got on. 2 months seems pretty quick to me as a new customer. Has availability loosened up that much?

I think it has loosened up a bit, sure. That said the SeaD certainly lacks the demand of a Sub, GMT, Daytona, and SkyD.

Don't do anything that would put more important financial obligations in arrears. I'm sure the AD would understand if you told him/her that you were not expecting a call this soon and need a bit more time to save.

If you do move forward with purchase, congrats on one heavy duty tool watch!

The SD is a bit of a niche watch IMO, fewer buyers for it, therefore a bit easier to acquire. That’s said, two months is excellent

The SD is easier to get than either Sub. The larger 43mm size may be an issue with the SD for a lot of people.

Have several subs, an SD43 and a JC DSSD. I really feel that the SD43 is the best all around diver Rolex makes. It has great proportions for a diver, love the Matt dial and the red lettering and the wider bracelet and thin lugs. I do think the JC dial is the best in the diver line but the size, proportions of the SD43 make it the best diver.

I love my SD43. It’s a beautiful watch & has great wrist presence, especially if you have a larger wrist.

As for availability, I was offered a SD43 back in September after only 2 weeks. It is now selling at RRP or slightly below on the gray market. It sells for about the same $ as a Sub on the gray market, but costs 3-4K more. It’s a watch you have to want.

I wouldn't buy the watch if it doesn't work financially for you right now. When the time is right, I think the SD43 is a reference you could get allocated from an AD, even with no purchase history, in less than 10 months.

First and foremost, congrats on this acquisition. You seem to have better luck than I in the dealer waiting game.

Seems to me Sea Dwellers are not particularly fast movers from the AD save fueling the secondary market which is collapsing before our eyes, now who is left to buy them? Enthusiasts hopefully. Beautiful watch but a niche piece for sure. I was looking at a pristine piece recently from the early 2000's, I have done business with the holder before and likely could land it for under $9k if I was serious.
