Help with Grandfather’s GMT

Hello,

My grandfather (now passed) was a pilot in the Air Force and purchased a GMT in Saudi Arabia where he was stationed in the 60’s. I remember him wearing this watch until it was no longer operational. It has the red/blue Pepsi dial. Questions: would this have most likely been the 1675 GMT? If
So what are these going for today? I would love to find one to hold and pass along to my son one day. Thanks in advance!

Yes, you'd be looking at a 1675. However, as this model went for 20 years, you'll find a massive spread in condition and value. I'd also be very sceptical about a lot of them, as after-market parts, faked patina etc is rife in vintage models such as this.

This would be worth a read to narrow down what you're looking for:

So the original watch went to another cousin after my grandfathers passing. I am pretty sure the watch isn’t working. What would be a fair price if I was to offer to buy it?

Grant0830,
Yes it would have been a 1675. Price depends on condition, originality, with without box and papers and bracelet.
Like buying a used car.
Good Luck

From your post it sounds like you still have the watch is that so? If you do even though it’s not running take it into your Rolex service center. Have them look at it and tell you what it would cost to get it in working order.

I do not personally have the watch. It was given to another cousin after my grandfathers passing. Pretty sure it’s not working. Trying to understand a rough value of a non-working 1675 1960’s GMT originally purchased in Saudi. Sorry if my post above was confusing

Best way is to just ask. No one here can place a value on your grandfather’s watch but you. Maybe he will take $5k, but maybe less. Just ask….and let us know how much it cost you. Good luck

Really just need to see some pictures, otherwise how long is a piece of string.

^^This^^
I don’t see where you positively identified it as a Rolex.
There were other popular 1960’s red/blue bezel GMTs like the Heuer Autavia.

Watch sounds interesting especially if all original and obviously it can be fixed

Spend some time researching. Learn as much as you can about the 1675 and your grandfather’s particular watch. After this offer your cousin a fair price. If you get the watch come back here with photos for advice on how to proceed. Whatever you do don’t take it Rolex. They will happily ruin the originality and value of it and charge you a lot to do so.

You might want to check out Chrono 24 and search for a 1675.
Find the lowest and the highest, many variables.

If it was my grandfathers watch it would be priceless
