Datejust or Explorer1 would be my choice. Funny, I don’t own either one.

to the OP: if I was forced to choose one daily, it would be an easy decision for me. The batman is closest to my heart and does go with just about everything.
Sport watches are more popular today because people are lazy/casual dressers and they are too cheap/ignorant to buy pieces that work appropriately with certain dress.

A Datejust is not the best choice with a suit, but it is only a step or two removed from a dress watch. It's like a pair of loafers. You can wear loafers with a suit even though balmoral oxfords are a better choice. You can wear loafers with casual wear as well even though they are slightly dressy. But you look like a moron if you wear Park Avenues with jeans or sneakers with a suit.

Rolex produces 3 watches that are ideal for everyday wear:

Datejust
DayDate
Oyster Perpetual

------------------------------------------------------

Those are without a doubt the 3 most versatile watches Rolex produces. You could make a case for the Explorer 1 as well. Any other watch will be deficient in one or more common styles of dress.

Datejust Or Submariner

I currently own the Datejust 41 (smooth bezel and oyster bracelet) and a Ceramic Sub Date, and they are both great. Got the DJ in that configuration so it would "fly under the radar" but it actually gets more compliments that the Sub. Any steel Rolex is a great everyday watch, but it should have a date wheel. The Datejust is a little more dressy, so it would look a bit out of place whilst wearing casual attire, but I find that the Sub works with everything.

You’re certainly not the only one. A diving watch. With a suit. Nah.

Explorer, Milgauss, Daytona, Air-King, even Explorer II- if from the Professional range- seem so much better to me if one watch needs go with everything, including suiting up.

Being retired, I seldom wear a suit anymore. My favorite every day watches are the Explorer and North Flag. Both are incredibly accurate and comfortable.

Park Avenues mean absolutely nothing to people from the UK.
Are they shoes?

Allen Edmonds.

They’re a classic American cap toe oxford. They’re ok. Good quality, decent comfort, goodwelt stitch, etc.

Not as fashionable as their following would make you believe, in my opinion.

The goodwelt stitch creates a wider sole which can look a bit like a diving platform around the entire shoe.

And the leather is tough as nails... good for durability, but not quite as elegant or comfortable as a result.

It’s very much an entry level high end shoe.

Not a lobb or green.

Does that help?

Try telling that to almost every James Bond O07, from his early Sub in Dr No, to the Omega’s that the current 007 wears.

RE the suit debate:

To me the vintage (five digit and prior) pieces with diving/GMT bezels work better with a suit than the six digits do. The six digits have become a little too boxy and a little too flashy to pair with a suit. Just my humble opinion.

I tried to call him, but he was in a meeting with Superman, Bugs Bunny, and Wonder Woman. We should get his advice on the best laser beam watches too.

Wear a GMT mostly because I need to track differing time zones all the time, but when I don’t, and in answer to the OP’s question, to my mind, the best all round every day Rolex, then the Datejust wins by a mile. It’s the ultimate do all watch, and the best part is...there’s no ceramic featuring anywhere in its design.

116710LN. I've had mine for over ten years, and have worn it almost every day. Though the PCLs no longer look polished (a good thing, IMO), the ceramic looks as new. The black goes works with all but the most formal occasions. The GMT functionality is fantastic for travel. Mine is extremely accurate (actually, runs a slightly fast now after RCS). It is my "Only Watch" pick.
