FS: Stunning Rolex 1680 RED Submariner / “Red Sub” Mk5 Dial / 3.3M Series, circa 1973
From my personal collection is one of the all-time favorites of Rolex collectors, the 1680 “Red Sub.” If you’ve been waiting patiently for a “clean Red Sub” to come on the market, this is your chance.
Red Submariners with excellent dials are becoming increasingly more difficult to find. Here you have one of the finest examples. With its gorgeous red dial writing, classic Submariner case construction, and eye-popping “top hat” crystal, it exudes a timeless vintage charm, with rugged good looks that few other vintage or modern Rolexes can compete with. This example features the classic “Mark V/5” dial, with its lovely red lettering directly on the dial (vs. on top of white), and its slightly pronounced open 6’s on the depth rating. An absolutely stunning example, which in years to come will garner even higher demand by serious Rolex collectors for its historical significance and beauty. As they say, “They don’t make them any more!” The Details: Dial/Hands/Crystal: Exceptional condition “Mark V/5” dial, with striking "creamy vanilla" tritium hour markers and perfectly matching tritium hands. I don't think it could be rated less than 9/10. Absolutely no chipping around the outer perimeter of the dial, which many other Red Subs suffer from. Correct “top hat“ crystal (mint/no flaws; crystal clear) and silver date wheel, with open 6 and 9. Case: Beautiful, thick lugs and crown guards, with still visible original chamfers. Would estimate only a couple light polishes in its 45 years! All serial/model numbers are clearly visible on the case (3.3M Serial #). Excellent bezel insert (I would say mid to fat font range) with perfectly matching tritium pearl remnant still visible. Bracelet: Near mint later series 93150 bracelet with correct 580 end links. Absolutely no stretch! 11 links. Crisp/tight clasp ready for daily wear. Movement: Rolex original; service history unknown. The watch has not needed service and has kept good time under my ownership (after purchase from a highly respected Rolex collector); I have only had the casebook opened once for inspection by world famous LA Watchworks. $26,500 USD (no accessories). Payment by wire or face-to-face in Los Angeles; preference given to F2F buyers. USA sale to verified buyers only. Pics are fresh as of January 2019. References and other forms of verification happily provided. Please also see "who's who" section. |
