"Discontinued" has never been an attraction to me but I only collect vintage. It's about the history; the look; the mechanical innovation; and many other things rather than simply the exclusivity. Although, in collecting unique vintage pieces you get the exclusivity as standard. I think my newest watch is from 2000, while my oldest in the current collection is probably 150 years old. Would have been older if I'd been quicker on an 18th century pair case ... but nevermind.

If Rolex discontinued the YM II, it would not make me want to buy one.

Don't necessarily gain more interest but I did develop an appreciation for the steel bezel'ed Daytona after they stopped making them. I don't think it would have dawned on me so readily had they continued to produce them.

I hate I missed out on a Kermit. That one caught me off guard and I'm still having a hard time paying twice what I think it's worth. I sold my SD4K when it was discontinued and didn't look back. I prefer my Deepsea.

Discontinued watches have run their course. At least Rolex thinks so.

Don’t develop more interest in a watch once it’s discontinued... If I like it I like it... Only problem is I like a bunch of watches and my watch budget says I can’t buy them all at the same time... So if it gets discontinued before I buy it that’s on me. For example I had a choice to pick up a DBLue but I got my DaytonaC instead... Would like to own a SubC LV as well... If now (not saying it will) the DBlue or SubC LV get discontinued before I have enough cash to buy then I lost my chance to buy from an AD at MSRP (or Discount) and will either have to hunt for a used one or potentially pay a premium for one... However I’m not one to typically pay a premium.

Vintage is a whole different game as there are vintage watches that were discontinued before I was even born... Premiums are there I guess as they are selling more for what they did when new decades ago.

Not at all, I don't care about resale value at all.

Bought a minty pre-owned platty dial yacht master when I heard they were being discontinued. It’s a reference I’d always wanted and pleased I got it.
I also pulled the trigger on a couple of DJ2’s to add to the one I was already wearing when I heard they had been axed as well, and like mentioned above, I value them more than my other more ‘run of the mill’ current references.
Come to think of it, apart from my GMT LN ceramic, all my Rolex models have been discontinued.

Same here, got the YM plat. dial brand new before it got discontinued. It was the one I've always wanted but this time at a bargain! So glad I did. Grey prices have crept up since.

It’s about being “rare”, different, unique!

I wouldn’t buy a discontinued watch if I didn’t like it but I would definetly Buy a discontinued watch if I were thinking about it/hesitant while in production. Discounting it makes it jump up my list (hence my thoughts of the deep sea Blue as it might discontinue)
