Go to the AP website and take a look as the movement of the 15500.

first batch for all colors in singapore is sold out, if you want this watch better contact your dealer or boutique asap as I think demand is very strong for this new model.

Must say i was a bit wary in the beginning. But the more i look at the 15500, the more i like it. More sporty then the 15400, Yes indeed. But thats not an issue to me. And i also think it looks a bit cleaner actually. But i really dont like the extra 0,6 mm in height. Hmmm

And the price for the 15400....up or down?? Hard to say. But not much different i presume.

I own a 15400 black. I`m was on a list for the 15400 blue(and still am i hope). I will go for the 15500 for sure!

Looking at the composite, hands appear to be the same lenght. Anyway ... I’ll have to see in real life. Both at beautiful. I am starting to think that they can co-exist in a collection.

Unless you are on a list already and near the top or have a good relationship with an AD/AP Boutique I think you can expect a long wait........

And why is that?

Are you planning on going excessive swimming or consistently going under water levels of 160+ feet with a $20k non-dive watch?

You better read up on your water resistance ratings bud. 50m doesn’t mean you can actually go down 50m and it’s all good.

I like the changes to the 15500 but like most have said here, it makes the watch sportier. I think the dial on the 15400 is more elegant, which I prefer. I have enough sports watches and love the 15400 because it's truly one of the few sports watches you can convincingly dress up.

Agree on the above the 15500 seems more sporty than the more elegant 15400. Oh btw, your inbox is full PM me.

The point is, are you seriously going to go swimming, shower, or dip it in coffee, etc? Are these daily activities you do with your watch? If so, the 15400 can still handle the activities (besides diving).

99% of buyers won't do any of water related activities besides the odd occasion of rain. And if the person somehow needs a watch that can do all that, its more than likely that individual has another watch more robust to take a true beating.

The RO is classified historically as a sports watch, but in reality is has never been one for a very long time. Don't get fussy about water resistance. It can handle a spray of water.

I don’t think you’ll notice much on the thicker case of the 15500. I have a 41mm ROC and the thicker case doesn’t bother me at all. I believe the 15500 is thinner than ROC. Hope this helps. Will you be selling your 15400?

Do you plan on racing with a 911 or off-road with a G-Wagon? The answer is no - but you get satisfaction from knowing it’s capable.

The RO (and I own a 15400) is not a dive watch correct. But it is a sports watch and in this day and age, at least 100m is expected from a sports watch. Rating of 50m is what I would expect from a dress watch with a leather strap.

So yea, the 15500 missed an apportioning in my opinion to up the WR rating.

With regards to the comparison, my whole collection is sports / professional watches - as is the majority of people here. So the fact that the RO is classified as a sports watch, I still prefer the 15400 as it is a more elegant sports watch that the more rugged sporty looking 15500.

Cheers!

can't wait to see the 15500 in person, from the picture I have seen online I'm liking it a lot more than the 15400 already, hopefully the price increase is justified with the bigger and better movement

That's correct. According to AP's website:

15202 is 8.1mm
15300 is 9.4mm
15400 / 15450 are 9.8mm
15500 is 10.4mm
ROCs (all sizes) are 11mm (although I have read reviews saying the 41mm ROCs are actually 10.8mm).

I think it is a fair point that as the 550 does look sportier maybe they should have upped the WR, but as it is a RO I know this is not a priority for most. And the added thickness, which I think is marginal, is in line with the sportier feel.

Consider me firmly on the 550 boat (in blue). The slightly sportier look works for me, as well as finally having a movement that's properly sized for the 41mm case. It looks like it might be a long wait though, as my boutique tells me the line is huge already!

AP 15400 vs 15500

Had the 15500 dial been the current and the 15400 dial the new SIHH 2019 release, this and other threads would have been exactly the same tune.

I asked most of my friends and some colleagues (none are watch people) to pick between the side by side photos and without fail 100% chose the 15400.

Just saying...

No way, that'd mean they'd be swapping out a properly sized movement for an undersized movement. And adding the word "automatic". The uproar would be deafening!

But then the argument can be having the word “automatic” is in line with the Jumbo lol

well look wise and dial wise I agree this is true,

however, movement wise, I think it can be agreed upon that the new movement is superior and more suitable for the case.
