Agree with this take. Too many other offerings at that price point. Perhaps they’ll launch one in stainless steel and get plenty of purchases through people looking to get on waitlists for hard to get RO pieces.

It will have it's market and should do fine. The case design is very unique.

NYC Boutique will have all the 2019 novelties Feb 25 through March 2. Email says to rsvp but I assume you can just drop in.

Yup, I got the same email. I don't know if I'll have time to swing by there during business hours. What I really want to see is the gray ceramic 44mm ROO that's not going to be there anyway.

i think sn13 nails it when he says they'd be fine if they were 1-3k. so unremarkable.

The movement is probably great.

The design is UNDENIABLY Shit.

No matter how many times you stick your nose into AP's rear and take a big whiff, you're not going to convince me this is a "Risky Design" or "Game Changer" or "Awesome" or whatever contrived catch phrase you want to attempt to use to justify this giant steaming pile.
So... you’re still on the fence, then?

The pictures make it worse. I really can't believe AP would release a Michael Kors homage and charge the prices they charge for it.

Scheduled my appointment to see the SIHH 2019 novelties on March 13 at the BH boutique. I know they are going to be pushing the Code line very hard (they were already doing so the last time I stopped in). For anyone else interested, they are scheduling appointments for most of that week (3/12-3/17).

I'll play the song and dance for a bit looking at those watches but my real goal that day will be putting down a deposit for the 15500

So I went to AP House in Brooks Mews London today. As usual impeccable service and hospitality from the crew there.

More relevantly I had a good look at the Code line. Tried on many variants (all three dial colours, rose and white gold cases, the chronos and the simpler second and date only models). Spent quite a bit of time trying them on. I like the Code line. Actually I really like it. Especially the black dial and rose gold combination. They look much better in real life than they do in pics. Please go physically see them as you may change your mind.

There is a good chance of me putting my money where my mouth is - am seriously considering getting the simple black dial rose gold version.

Btw I walked into Lange after as I wanted to try on some of their watches and even they started talking about it unprompted after they saw they I was wearing my double balanced and rightly assumed that I was an AP fan. They felt that it was a bold and avantgarde design just like AP do best. They said the same happened to the RO when launched.

Perhaps it's the lighting in Harrods where I saw some, but in that lighting I really just don’t get them. But they had no rose gold then and I’m a bit upset that despite asking to be notified (as its only RG I’m interested in), I’ve not been invited to see them. Very poor PR.

Chris - I liked the Rose much more than the white gold. The Rose just worked better. I had hoped they do the rose gold with the blue dial but they don't (for now). For me the choice was clear - Keep the mechanism and dial uncomplicated and the colour combo was Rose Gold with Black dial.

Couple of pics of my preferred option (terrible pic quality - again watch is much better and less reflective in real life):

saw the new code line at the boutique over the weekend, they do look a tad better in person, but didn't really change my mind that they are not for me.
The new movement is great though.

Finally Saw it irl the controversial Code 11.59

Kinda crazy to think that AP is drawing inspiration from Bremont of all places. I’m talking about the “lugs only attached to bezel” thing. Not a good look for AP.

Saw that at the boutique, I didn't like that aspect either.

Had a chance to see these in person at the AP Boutique in BH yesterday. While they're nice dress watches I was immediately underwhelmed by the design. There are a million watches that look like this, and I think the traditional AP customer (like many here) is drawn to the statement pieces like the RO, ROC and ROO.

IMO AP is trying to expand their offering and attract new buyers with the Code 11.59, but it's not going to win over the hearts and imagination of their traditional RO buyers.

Have people commented on how it wears on the wrist? Looks to wear very large for a dressier piece.

I thought the codes were a lot more than the 19k quoted here. 19k for a gold AP isn’t bad.

It does wear large - too large to work as a dress watch in my opinion
