If you could use the date display frequently, then definitely the date, especially if it's your one and only (for now). I prefer the non date for its symmetry and not having to set a date when I haven't worn it for several days. But I have say, do consider the SDc, it's a spectacular piece, has a date without a cyclops, which makes it a bit cleaner, and wears fantastically on a lot of people. It's a bit more, but you'll have any of those watches for a long time...

I prefer having the date and had always thought it looked more iconic (For me).

Thanks for all of the input. It's really been helpful. I think it helped pull my true feelings about it out. I know it's not a life changing decision, but it will be my first and I am excited about it. I'd tell you what I decided but want to wait until I have it on my wrist (cause you never know)

No date model looks very, very clean, but when given the choice between two similar models, I go with the date model as I use the function often.

The more I see no dates in the wild the more I like them, even prefer them. There's no wrong choice here as long as you get what you want and not what you think others will like.

If it's your main watch that you're building a collection around, go date - it's much more useful.
If it's going to be worn every so often or mainly on weekends, 100% go no-date - it's a purer design and truer to its roots. Personally I wear a GMT just about every day, so a no-date Sub would make more sense in my collection. |

I find the date function useful so by and large my watches have the date. The consideration for me isn't so much if it will be your only watch, but rather if it will be your most frequently used watch. If so and you like having the date, then get that. If you don't care about the date then consider the no date.
Any resale difference is in the hundreds maybe, but certainly not the thousands, so that isn't much of a consideration to me.

I perfer the Sub ND if SS. Only because if not SS, the Sub ND isn't an option. IMO, if a Sub has a date, it needs some color, like an LV or LB.

As far as date vs non date, you should pick the watch which sings to you the most as far as looks and style goes. They do look different with or without the cyclops. Only you can say which appeals to you more.
You can have a date function on the Submariner if you wish, just use the pearl on the bezel to tell you the date. I have had a 5513 for years and have set the bezel to the date every day. The left side of the bezel is for odd numbered days and the right side is for even numbered days. So 59th minute is the 1st and the 2nd minute becomes the 2nd, in fact all the minutes on the right side of the bezel tell the exact date by the minute. Every night before you go to bed to set your alarm, you set the date on your bezel. It becomes a habit quickly and since you know roughly where we are in the month, the date becomes easy to see after a short while. By the way, the 31st of the month is set at 12 o'clock. Just a thought if you really need the date function but love the clean look of the Sub dial. |

Like others have said if you need to remember the date a few times a day, definitely get the date! I am signing documents often at work multiple times a day and even though I know the date I always check my watch, always have, always will - can't ever see me owning a non date watch, it's all part of it for me.

Considering the SubC too.
Date is inconsequential to me. I had a Tudor BB and did just fine without the date function. And working in the medical field, including overnights, you would think I would need help keeping the day straight. Nope, I remember it once and know to add another day once midnight rolls around. Pretty simple. Plus the date function is one more thing to break or get fouled up. I prefer the simplicity of the SubC sans date. |

I don't hear endless tales of Rolex date functions breaking or getting fouled up. The subc no date is the one I'd choose but not because of a highly unlikely quality issue.
