I prefer it over the 36mm versions as long as it is the newer version with the longer hours hand. Also not as ubiquitous as subs and DJ's

Own the 39 mm exp, white and black dial ceramic daytona, 1680 red sub, 5513, ceramic sub. 39 mm exp and ceramic sub get the most wrist time. Currently have exp 39 on everest black aligator curved end strap. No date watches are grab and go, easy to set, a great watch

I don’t like the proportions of the 39, sold it and bought the 36 version. If you like it go for it!!!

Get it if you love it.

Had the 114270 and 214270 MK2, for me the proportions of 214270 looks off kind of like DDII versus DD40. But I would still buy 214270 MK2 over 114270 due to upgraded bracelet and the full lume looks cool.

I'm waiting for an updated Explorer as I do like the reference otherwise and I want that feeling of being an 'Explorer' type of guy that Rolex is marketing

Rolex can really make something hot from the Explorer model, would be cool in platinum with a special ice dial. If that would be priced reasonable say below a DD40 in gold it could be an instant hit.

Hi there watchfams, just got the 214270 for about half year but encountered some issue when manually winding if the watch. It has a Sandy/ not smooth winding feeling to it. As my understanding, my dad's submariner date has quite a buttery smooth feeling to it.

Hope u guys can help me out!
Cheers!

39mm much better in my opinion.

I have wide wrists so the 36 doesn’t suit.

39mm mk2 is a fantatsic modern yet classic sports watch.

I also prefer the proportions of the 36mm over the 39mm, but having lumed numerals on the MK2 is nice.

The Explorer 1 MKII was my first piece and that was in 2016 when you could pretty much get anything. It will never leave my collection

2016+ has lume 369 markers (mk1 had all white gold). Makes a world of difference IMO. Also has better proportioned hands. Old Trex hand issue was fixed (though I consider this a forum issue, not an issue in person). Possible bracelet enhancement but not sure on this.

214270 Mk1 is the only Rolex I own anymore, I’ve been through several. I actually like the WG numerals and T rex hands, its make the watch a little quirky just like me! WG numerals are not as legible in direct sunlight as the Mk2, but this is splitting hairs as this thing is extremely easy to read nonetheless...it’s more of a style thing. No date no prob, I always have a stupid phone on me too.

Glad to hear you’ll soon be in the club!

I love the MK2. While the Explorer, like many watches, has grown in size over the years, this is actually the smallest watch i’ve worn on my 7.5 inch wrist on a regular basis for more than a decade. It fits great and is very versatile. The 3, 6, 9 lume at night is the icing on the cake.

I have a 2016 mkII (fully lumed) 39mm version. It's incredible. I have a 7.5" wrist and it's by far the most versatile watch I own. I've recently been wearing it on a rubber tropic strap, and it's amazing. I normally don't like newer Rolex models on straps (except those on the Oyster Flex straps), but this is so much fun, and it looks great (IMO). The watch itself is amazing, and you can't go wrong. It's simple. For some, that's a selling point, others will grow tired of that. Up to you.
