I don’t think it’s about beating up a watch. I think it’s more that the OP is being applauded for actually wearing the watch as opposed to fearing every minor scratch that is a natural part of watch ownership.

It’s the same reason I get excited when I see the guy at my local Porsche club meets with the GT2rs that is usually dirty. It isn’t the dirt that is exciting, it’s the fact that he drives the heck out of the car!
I agree! We are in a strange time of people buying watches and then freaking out when they get scratched. My wedding ring is beat to hell and I have only been wearing it 7 years. If you wear something every day and live your life, chances are it's going to look lived in. Life's far too short to worry about Rolex scratches. I don't think a single one of us wants to bang a new watch against a door jam but stuff happens, why worry about it.

Now my watches are worn in rotation. But they are worn. Most are still in 95-98% condition. Same with my bespoke suits and shirts. A few are 3 years old and still look brand new. So you don’t have to keep your car in a garage, your watches in a safe or your clothes in a closet to keep them looking good. You just have to take care of them. I’ll never go off-roading in my Mercedes and I’ll never garden in a suit wearing my DJ. Pretty simple for me. Now if a person wants to rock clime wearing a Rolex there is nothing wrong with that. To each there own.
Right.
I think the difference is that GT2RS is seen as a collectible. Rolex are now largely seen as collectible. When something becomes “collectible” many people tend to stop using it to preserve the value. I would expect that a C450 gets driven daily. Unfortunately not many GT2RS do, and it seems fewer Rolex sport models do.
Again, for me it isn’t about “liking” the scratches, because I don’t. It’s just a symbol of use, which is why I think some seem to applaud it.

And if you (OP) wanted, you could clean it up in 30 seconds with a green ScothBrite pad... or not.
It’s your watch, enjoy!

AMAZING THREAD! The watch looks like it gets a lot of love, a lot of wrist time, and has a lot of great memories with it. Great looking Sub, and here are to more memories, and more marks

(My clasp looks pretty similar on my 114060 )

I'd get it cleaned up - too beat up. Just my .02 though and everyone's different.

I believe it’s an error to think of modern mass produced Rolex watches as “collectible”. History suggests nearly all such items were made in limited quantities.

No argument here on the production aspect (I didn’t call them rare), but people are paying a premium for them, and many people “collect” them, so by factual definition they are collectible.

I don’t know man. Perhaps you should visit HQ Milton‘s website. You might have a change of heart once you do.

Wearing it, daily. That’s the way. Better than it sitting in a cold dark vault.

I fully agree, I’m all for wearing your watches. The reason I bought my first Rolex (I think many here still feel the same) was because they where an adventurers watch. Robust case, screw down crown, locking clasp etc. you never needed to take them off.
Granted today they are a lot more expensive than in the early days but I still swim, ski, hike etc. with my watch on as they are made for it. Not saying that I wear my them for tasks that I know will just scratch them to bits for no good reason, there are plenty of less expensive alternatives.
One nice thing with the modern materials like ceramic bezels, sapphire crystals, solid bracelets is they can take a pretty good amount of abuse and still come out lookIng pretty good at the end of the day. Take them in for service every few years and they come back looking like new again.

I'm not saying that you should baby your watches, or that having small scratches should bother you.

But I don't understand this idea of being "happy" about having a scratched/beat-up clasp. I wore my Subc everyday for two years, it have a few scratches but no way near what I see on this thread.

There is no need to beat up your expensive watches so you can brag about "how much you use them" on an internet forum.

PS. LOL at people that think that a $10k+ watch is a "tool" watch. Do you seriously believe that divers are using their one directional rotating bezel to time their air tank?
It is not to measure the air in the tank, it is to measure the air in the blood. It is perfectly acceptable tool for the job.

Well that’s pretty heavy desk use but if it does not bother you that’s all that matters.... me personally I am very wrist conscience of wearing a watch.

Looks normal to me. Anyone who has a daily wearer that looks better than that is a slave to their possession. I wouldn’t want to constantly be thinking about my watch. It’s out of mind until I look at the time. You wear yours in a healthy manner!

Exactly. The ocd and investment crowd will never understand the peace that those of us who just wear them enjoy.
