I need a new watch for work. But I do water line maintenance and installation
So I need something that's tough but not thousands of dollars......

O and almost forgot water proof

My vote would be the venerable SKX-007... (Seiko that is)

Alpha watches are great. I've had three for three years now and all are working great. I was doing yard work with mine all day in 100 degree heat. Afterward I wore it in the shower to rinse it off. Casio G-shock. Plastic, won't clang around like a metal watch, disposable. Why spend a lot for a watch that's gonna be used very, very hard?

+1 for G-Shock. I have mine for 8 years now, changed battery once for 5 bucks since the indiglo was going dim! Still in excellent condition even from heavy duty abuse/use purposes!

Seiko's SKX007 has my vote, and if you get one with a rubber strap, supposedly it also resistant to chemicals.

I am a pile driver so I use my watches in extreme environments as well.I wear an airking(rolex) that takes the abuse wonderfully,I also wear a seiko skx007,but if your swinging hammers an the like it is a little top heavy and the crown guards are a little sharp and will cut into your wrist.
lighter is better in construction.

You could mod it like mine with a BILL YAO dial and hands on a zulu like this 1. Look at where the crown is. I wish Rolex did that..it doesn't stck into the back of your hand when you working or in this cane a couple of kilometers of the coast of Sydney in a sea kayak. I'm buying a GMT but this is my go any where do any thing watch.

You can't go wrong with a G-Shock. I got a tough solar and waveceptor model a couple months ago at Target on clearance for 45 bucks. They usually have G-shocks on clearance quite often.
