GMT II Options
Howdy. I'm preparing to get my first Rolex in the next few weeks and it will be for everyday wear. I've largely settled the argument between the Submariner Date and GMT II in favor of the GMT. So a few questions:
1. I would get the GMT in stainless which is only available new with black or Batman bezel, not Pepsi. Pepsi is only available in white gold which is WAY over my head. Can black bezel be replaced with Pepsi by dealer? 2. Any insight into when they might release the stainless with Pepsi bezel. 3. Are there any prior version s of Pepsi bezel that use the newer numerals seen on the current versions? 4. Can anyone tell me the difference in case dimensions between the GMT and the Sub? Thickness I guess, since they're both 40mm. (The Sub still has a 10% chance in my decision making) Thanks |

1- No way. Only way Rolex would ever allow for that is if it was for a repair on BLRO and they would keep the old one. No way no how.
2- Who knows and when and if it does get ready to wait and wait and wait! Get what you want now don't wait on a dream. 3- No 4- Sub is bigger on the wrist |

1. No it won't fit.
2. Never. 3. No. 4. Sub is 48 mm lug to lug and 12.5 mm thick. Gmt is 12 mm thick and 48 mm lug to lug.

When sales slow down enough that Rolex believes it has got most of the Pepsi fans it can to buy the WG version. Plus about 10 years. Because then Rolex has to get what profits they can for a WG coke.

Based on the questions asked, the prior generation 16710 may be the better GMT option for you.

My first Rolex was a GMT II. And I had many of the same reservations about the current model, so I ultimately went with a Coke bezel 16710. I've never looked back. Love the Coke bezel and the brushed oyster bracelet (vs. the bezel options and center polished links on the current models). But that's just a matter of personal preference. No matter what you choose - new or old - you can't go wrong with the GMT II.

Reading through your post I agree with the above post, I think you're better off buying a 16710 Pepsi. It will tick all the boxes you currently desire and has the Pepsi bezel right off the bat.
The 16710 is probably one of the best watches ever made. Even though they disappeared from AD shelves a few years back in favour of re current ceramic models, being an owner of both, you can't go wrong with the older model and prices for them are on the up. The Pepsi 16710 is my favourite watch and I have four in my collection. The sub is slightly thicker than a GMT, because the case back in minutely thicker for the added depth rating, that's it, but the GMT is still good enough for most people's water sports activities with no ill effects. It's an oyster case after all. Once you own a GMT you never need a sub, which is why I don't have one, and likely never will. |

Thanks everyone for your input and experience. I'm really looking for one watch to do it all; jeans, suits, black tie. The appeal of the Sub is the history but that's it. The GMT is much more useful for me and I think its a better looking piece. And while I love the classic look of the 16710 BLRO I do prefer the newer style 116710. I'll probably go with the LN and get the PCLs buffed out. (I love the Batman too but probably not great for business/formal attire)

I wear the GMT LN, it's a fantastic everyday watch..
But BLNR the same really,,but just a look with the blue I would choose standard black,,and matches everything you will be wearing,,,shirts,,suits,,jumpers etc Also the center polished links on GMT look nice,,don't get with Sub Both pieces 40mm which you probably know by now |

Make sure you try a BLNR too, I find mine very versatile but agree the GMT is a great "only" Rolex, I'll never go deeper than 100m (or anything close).
The GMT complication is great, I use it regularly, I'm currently in Australia but my bezel is set to Washington DC as I have a number of colleges there for a couple of weeks. |

Great piece. I had the LN. Sold it for a sub and got the BLNR. Just a little more interesting.

If you want a SS GMT with a dash of color on the ceramic bezel, the BLNR is your only choice currently.

1. Nope and if one could you would end up with a blue/red bezel with a green GMT hand...ummm not quite visually appealing, if you ask me.
2. Anything is possible. However I doubt they will release SS version and piss off all the buyers who purchased the WG BLRO. They will more likely release SS version in Coke. But this is all conjecture 3. No 4. Nearly identical Personally I'd go with BLRN and I did |

I am confident they shall release a ss Pepsi in the bear future. The sales for the gold Pepsi kind of stalled and we have the skydweller example already.
I am hoping for one in the next 2 years based on Rolex trend.

Look up a trusted seller names SoHAIS. I got a SS Pepsi from him in superb condition. You can save considerable coin this way.

This is the one I got from SoHAIS. Traded an early DSSD for it.

I had a sub date for 10 years, wore it daily and sold it last year. Just went with a GMT ii last month after heavy debate over that or a Subc date again. Chose the BLNR for the cool black and blue bezel. After two weeks had the PCLs brushed and absolutely love the look of the watch now. I am a Florida inshore fisherman where we have high to low tide swings every six hours and the bezel is terrific to help mark these and a quick glance at my watch is helpful while on the water. Similar to the sub and its great qualities.... but even better for my needs. Hope this helps......post up what you go with |
