GMT Master II Ceramic question

Is it possible that there is not enough Platinum on the arrow representing the 24hr market? In some light it looks like you can see a black triangle in it, in other lights it looks solid. Any thoughts or experience?

I think it looks fine, but I can see what you're saying. How about when it's in the light? Also I have a bezel issue on my InCoMiNg post for my GMT 2 C. Would love your opinion on it.

In different light you can’t see it, but it’s definitely noticeable. I think it’s a shadow. Can you see it on your? I’ll check out your post.

It's hard to tell from the picture and I'll have a look at mine to see (when I'm in better lighting). Seems normal to me though so continue enjoying that incredible piece

Trying washing it out with soap. Maybe some finger grease/ oil got on it. Will make it look greyish.

I can't really see much of a difference on mine, but it's not that noticeable

IF there is a problem, is this something that is part of the warranty?

Although I wasn't able to capture it in a picture, I did notice I looks like yours from the image above from the right angle. Nothing seems to be wrong with it though and this could be normal:

Thanks, I can see it a little in your photo a little. I’m sure it’s probably normal. But it helps to have a little reassurance from other owners.

It's caused by continually rubbing over it. The triangle is just big enough for the center to receive the pressure from fingers, cloths, t shirts, or whatever else you try to clean up the watch with.

It is commonly referred to as "burnishing" if it actually affects the surface. However, it is more likely just dirt or oils being left behind here, and will most likely be removed with warm water and soap.

Thanks. It’s a brand new watch so it hasn’t been touched many times. I’ll try soap and water. If there is a problem with it is it covered by the warranty?

Warranties cover manufacturing defects; if it is a defect it would be covered. If it's from using a Cape Cod cloth on the bezel, or other damaging act, it would not be covered.

I would use a bit of liquid hand soap, warm water, and a soft toothbrush to clean it, then dry with a micro fiber cloth.

Mine LN looks like yours. There was a recent thread where the OP posted the same thing. It seemed rather common. I wouldn't worry about it much. I personally don't. I'll try and find that other thread for you.

My BLNR triangle area looks similar as yours too when bought new from the AD.

I've seen this black triangle many times, it's more prominent on gold pieces, it's just the way it is, don't think it's to do with dirt.

There are quite a few threads on this if I recall. Seems like the norm. I owned a BLNR for about 6 months and for some reason I didn't have or notice this problem.

Also on your bezel triangle you have the same effect. Nothing to do with wearing it or friction. They born like his and you have to be lucky enough to find one with out.

I think it is burnishing of the area, in much the same way if you rub at a crystal nail file in the same spot it will dull eventually.

Very common problem with the GMT2. I've had the same happen in my 116710LN, 116710BLNR and 116713LN. That little area in the 24hr marker greyed out. Does not affect your lume (at least it did not affect mine), so I believe a little bit of cleaning should clear that out.

Mine had the same thing and an AD friend of mine recommmended a creative solution that worked really well for me. Take a steamer you would use for wrinkles in your clothing and steam the triangle. I used the steam function on my iron. After 10 or so seconds take a pencil eraser and rub it on the triangle. Do this a few times and you’ll bring that triangle back to a bright silvery color again.

Here’s the scoop. Just left the main Rolex service center here in NYC. At first the person helping me couldn’t see it, truth be told I was having a little trouble seeing it in that light. They took it back to the technician and finally saw what I was talking about. Apparently the platinum does patina over time. They steamed it for me and now seems to be gone. The yachtmasters are known to get really dark with patina and look good as new after servicing. So, maybe take it to a good jeweler and have it streamed.

I've seen it on some of the GMT's I've owned. (Yes I have a problem with GMT's )

Never really thought about it much...but Larry's (Tools) answer seems to be plausible. Good luck.

Oh boy... I can just see people going potty over patinated GMTIICs in years to come - and laying $$$ to have a dark triangle
