What do you want in a new SS GMT?
The maxi-case GMT came out about 10 years ago. Is it too soon for a redesign to come out?
Here is what would make me run to the AD: -Coke bezel -New 3286 GMT movement -Thinner lugs (something between new and old) -Brushed bracelet -Slightly smaller dial markers and bezel numbers -Red GMT hand What do you want in a new SS GMT and what do you think the price would be? |

That works for me. Optional jubilee would be cool but won't happen. Other things that won't happen...a superdome.

Glidelock.
Red/blue bezel. I love that BLRO but just can’t scrounge the funds. |

Shoulders around the crown and lugs and offer a jubilee.

Slightly larger case with tapered, longer lugs would create better proportions. Would Rolex ever lume the bezel again like the original? How about a lumed sapphire bezel like the FF or is that too gimmicky?

One thing that I DON'T want is a "Ring Command" quickset GMT bezel (i.e.: Skydweller).

I don't see Rolex changing a case design that is apparently selling out everywhere. All these threads about how hard it is to find subs and GMTs, even in the U.S. -- what would make Rolex think a redesign is necessary or desirable?

I would love to see a black/red bezel. Maybe an increase to 42mm case size.

Rolex will take all of these ideas into account...and then make them exclusive to a new platinum Coke GMT

Glidelock is what’s holding back a GMT purchase to me. It’s one of the best clasp designs ever made and it isn’t on a the GMT.

Great point! Even though some 5ers want to return to the smaller size, the maxi sells like gangbusters.

I don't think you're going to see a change in the platform, i.e., lugs, super case, maxi dial, easy link v. glide lock, etc. any time soon. I think Rolex has gone a certain direction and they're not coming back.
Now...as to the colors on the bezel or a new movement...maybe. |

Coke bezel would do it for me...brushed bracelet would be nice, but that part I can get done anyway.

Well, since the GMT Master II was first introduced in 1983, and was only offered in black/red for the first six years, I'm predicting a 40th anniversary re-release of a SS Coke in 2023. Sorry...I know it's a long time to wait.

A coke bezel is inevitable. The issue is probably getting it red enough, since the more subdued colour on the BLRO wouldn't cut it. I suppose Rolex could also be worried about cannibalizing BLRO sales, but I suspect they wouldn't have released the BLNR either if that were the issue.
New movement is also inevitable. A variation of the glidelock seems likely at some point (perhaps with a smaller clasp?), but I doubt that'll be soon. After that, what else could they give us? Maybe a more interesting two-tone variation? Aside from new colours, there's not a lot of (obvious) things to be done with the GMT at this point. Maybe slightly skinnier bezel numbers? I could see Rolex changing something comsmetic like that "just because." |

Ooh, actually, something I'd love that will never happen but I'll say it anyway: remove the crown guards. That would be a nice way to distinguish the case from the sub, and it would thin the overall design for the folks who hate the wider lugs.
The more I think about it, the more I think that a GMT with no crown guards would make me completely lose interest in my current watch. Even if nothing else but that changed, I'd still want the new one. *edit* Here's a Project X modded sub with the crown guards removed. I think that design would actually be appropriate for a GMT, since knocks to the crown aren't especially a danger to a travel watch. |
