Having a good Friday
Wrapped up things at work and took my son to see this with dinner afterwards. No food picks today to let Forum rest from my insanity
This show has been on the road for 15 months, it is great that Quiroz is producing this with a fantastic cast. (ref: www.catsmx.com) |

...just because you asked (twist my arm...), some pics from last night's tasting event. Two whites (Spain) one red blend (Mexico) and a Malbec/Port (Argentina), all pairing mexican food. Unique dish: chocolate tamal with goat milk ice cream

We were received with a white Verdejo from Spain, a very drinkable wine that is a a good option for just a casual gathering (keep in mind Verdejo grapes are semi sweet, it laks the velvety sensation of a Chardonnay, but at $9us per bottle, I was impressed). It paired nicely with the corn.
Second wine was a Chardonnay from Spain paired with a pork and avocado tostada....let's just say that Chardonnay is not Spain's top grape....my 2 cents, pass. Third, is a new wine being manufactured at Bodegas Santo Tomas in Ensenada Mexico, with 80% Cabernet, first expression (no food) was pretty bad...but then we got small pork tacos with chile pastille sauce (heavy grease plate) and...WOW the wine just changed! A great red (not cellar capable in my opinion) that asks for heavy dishes (I would love to try with lechon) Last, we got a Port style wine made with Malbec grapes in Argentina, a beautiful, sweet (not as much as in port) and with a whooping 20% alcohol content. The dish was just fenomenal! A chocolate tamal (think of a regular tamal but mix the masa with chocolate) and a small side of goat milk ice cream. Beautiful! And the Malamado was a perfect match! (Malamado is the name, stands for MALbec A MAnera De Oporto) Yes! |
