Icon19 Tudor 76200 Prince Date + Day: a Week on the Wrist.

Well, after (almost) a week, this watch is certainly living up to expectations.

I'll just break this brief review down into Pros, Cons and Thoughts.

Pros
Full day and date function, very light weight with a brand new 36mm Rolex Oyster mid-case with lug holes, starburst silver dial, very thin overall (slightly thinner, even, than my 36mm Explorer, thanks to the flatter caseback), a comfortable bracelet, very affordable (less than $2,400 msrp, before discount – or about 10% of the price of the cheapest Rolex Day Date). Accuracy is about +1 second per day so far. Solid Tudor/ETA 2834-2 movement.

Cons
Folded end links, old-style non-locking clasp, no anti-glare coating under the cyclops, lume is typically weak.

Thoughts
I’ve been wanting one of these ever since I discovered that they were still being supplied brand new to ADs in Hong Kong. The 76xxx, 74xxx and 72xxx Prince and Princess models use Rolex Oyster mid-cases with lug holes, as Prince models have since the early 1950s. Hong Kong is the only place that I know of for sure that still sells them, but there are probably some other Asian countries that do. (Check tudorwatch.com in your country and see if they are featured on the site.)

It’s remarkable how similar this watch is to my 1966 Datejust. There’s more than 50 years between them, but the case and endlink design is almost identical. The dial colouring and hands are also very similar. To me, this watch is more about heritage than the actual Tudor Heritage line.

Finally, I’ve noticed when travelling overseas lately that I am more likely to need to know what day it is, than what time it is back home. So this one is probably going to be coming along on the travels instead of a GMT-Master or Explorer II in future.

Adam, have you tried to swap the movement between the prince and datejust?

Doorstop. Yes, they are very uncommon. I was lucky to find a full set with box and papers.

Nice one Adam your lucky you got the full set! I just got the watch but I got it from a AD here in San Diego that has pre owned called Royal Maui. so it's been serviced, case polished, and newer d link style jubilee bracelet comes with two year in house warranty and good price. You helped me get my second watch, the Tudor black bay black with the ETA. Now I'm on the hunt for one of these! My wallet is burning Adam please stop lol

I've stopped now. My last significant purchase was the Black Bay, too. That was about two years ago, and I've been selling off my collection since then.

Yeah I think the vintage datejust and the black bay with the eta is
the perfect setup for anything life can throw at us! That Tudor date + day is the real heritage line like you said and really want one. We'll see what Basel brings us this year, may have to get another if Rolex/Tudor brings the heat haha

I forgot to mention that these are also the last Tudor models to come with a Cyclops, which were otherwise dropped by Tudor quite a few years ago, perhaps as part of their effort to move away from Rolex.

Great review adam. I stopped in the AD the other day trying on the SD4K when a Tudor day date with a black stick face caught my eye and tried it on but it looked so small on my 8" wrists but then again that was right after trying on a DSSD so anything would feel small!

Nice one.
At that price, this model is such a good buy. A Day-Date for only 2k .
I am curios to see it on a black leather strap.

Thanks for the review. I really like that watch and it seems like a lot of old school bang for the buck.

I really wish that Tudor 76200 Prince Date+Day was sold in the USA as I would buy one. It looks to be a great watch for business travel.

Looks great, it is not often you see lug holes on modern watches. Might be going Australia in October and visiting Hong Kong as a stop over, I prefer the 76214 fluted bezel option, are these readily available too?

Nice review, good looking Tudor, yesterday I was looking at the new version in 39 mm.
Interesting to see in other part of the word they still carry the original one.
