Yes, I think you'll find the date on caseback, but again only an indication.

Dial, hands and bezel insert are service. Case looks very good and sharp though, a shame things were replaced.

In regards to the serial, it's in the 72-73 mark.....but understand serial #'s don't dictate exact manufacturing years since it's extrapolated from data points given by other Rolex owners/vintage fans....so it's at best a guesstimate. I wouldn't be so fixated on the birth year thing because you'd never be 100% sure, as long as it's close enough would work fine IMO.

Looks like a gorgeous example to me. To be honest I think it's a blessing to have the service dial/hands/bezel as it looks sharp but is more affordable.

Post some wrist shots once you've got it.

One on Watchfinder with service dial for nearly double the price!
Yours looks a great buy with the Rolex service papers.

That's a very clean and nice piece. You are aware of changed parts. S/N matches with the production year.

It's a catch if you get good price.

Good decision, the more I was thinking about it the more I was leaning towards it. You don't see '72 watch in this shape for this price (taking replaced parts into consideration). You might have never found another one if you missed this. As already noted by somebody, don't think about it as an investment, think about it as your watch that you want to wear and it's a good deal.

I have now bought the watch, looks fantastic and the bracelet looks in good shape also to me.

Big thank you for giving me the heads up.

I’ll post pictures when I get home later but here’s a quick one on my right (wrong) wrist:

Thanks. I know the replacement parts are there, which has affected vintage value but:

1. I prefer the newer parts.
2. The watch would have been double the price I paid if it was all original.

The condition of the watch head and bracket is amazing for 45 years old, you’d think it was 12 months old and the new Dial, hands and bezel add to this ‘new’ appearance.

Wow, how do you know that the bezel and hand are service replacements? (Not questioning your knowledge) just curious...

Thanks

Congratulations!

Who was the supplier, if it was a retailer, and how were they to deal with?

Yes as it’s a brand new service dial which whilst bad is also good.

It was Cavendish Jewellers in York and they were absolutely fine to deal with.

No matter what replacement parts it has, that truly is a nice looking watch.
