Caved in..16610

I have been wanting a Submariner since childhood. Probably started by Bond movies to begin with.

It had not seemed realistic to me over the years ( looking at how the prices have risen I should have pulled the trigger a long time ago )

So I was pretty much a G Shock wearer for a long time, as they took a beating and could swim, shower etc. with it.

A few years ago I came by a Seiko model, the SNE437P1. To me it looked like a poor mans Submariner and I have been very happy with it.

Then Seiko introduced the black limited edition models last year. I thought they would be available later...

Guess I was wrong, it was hard as hell to find this model for close to the original retail and with the few on online and at Chrono24 for example were in the range of 900 - 1200 EUR....

Why I bought this was I was a bit mad about needing to pay that much for not buying sooner..

After a bit of digging around did get the SRPC49K1 for a good price

And I do not know exactly why, but I recently came across this Sub 16610 for sale quite close here and decided to pull the trigger finally.

This was after reading the forums here, looking at the differences of the models, going over Chrono24 quite a few times ( but did not want to buy this expensive of a watch abroad )

Congrats! Had mine for 20 years and in my estimation, one of the most balanced well proportioned tool watches that one can purchase. extremely versatile with the satin rather than mirror ceramic bezel and giant lugs in the 6 digits. The best thing about it, is that it does not scream for attention as so many of the new versions do.

Great choice. Much prefer this generation to the newer stuff.

Congrats! I was in the same boat! After watching Sub prices steadily rise over the past 20 years, I found myself in a position to purchase my dream watch. Then, the spike in price. I paid more than I wanted, but I realized that if I didn't buy one now, I never would. Mine is a '99.

What surprised me was how small it actually was at 40 mm, as it had been a while since I saw anyone wearing one and that my first Seiko is pretty big compared to it. But it goes much more easily under a shirt/jacket cuff of course.

But got to admit, at 300 EUR the Seiko is pretty damn good overall also :)

Out of all the watches I've owned, including 18 Rolexs...the classic Submariner 16610 is the one i'd keep if I could only have 1.....

Excellent choice my friend...

Wow no wonder you think the sub is small after wearing that seiko... I'd rather say that the seiko is huge and the sub is perfectly balanced.
I see you hesitated with the sub for a long time and were discouraged with the price increases, yet the same happened with the seiko...
Buy now, think later is the mantra!
Enjoy!
