Right... Now where were we?
Two and a half years ago I purchased my first Rolex, a Sub C that I chose over the GMT II C purely because I loved the simplicity of the dial and the brushed centre links as opposed to the polished ones found on the GMT, the busy bezel and from what I thought at the time, a slightly cluttered dial in terms of the date feature and GMT hand. The 114060 has been my daily watch until today and I have thoroughly enjoyed wearing it. The Explorer aside, you'd be hard pressed to find a more balanced dial. The fit has been excellent although I must admit I have hardly ever found the need to use the glidelock feature and I love how the ceramic bezel changes from gloss to a slightly grey vintage look under different lighting. All of the scratches have blended in very well over time. An absolute joy to own and wear. Over the last couple of months I've been flirting heavily with the SD4K and 116613LN Sub. In the end, I came to the conclusion that as much as I love the Sea Dweller, I did not like the bezel not matching the dial. I know many here love the matte dial, me included, but I just could not get past this. As for the TT Sub, I remembered something Adam (Old Ex-Pat Beast) said a while back and decided it was not for me...Yet. Then came the BLNR last week that a friend owns and I had the pleasure of trying it on. Nice watch, but I feel that I would have tired of the blue over time and preferred the green accents on the 116710LN. Called my AD on Monday and was told that I'd be number 4 on the list if I wanted so I said yes. Received a call back a few hours later and was told they'd have one coming in the next couple of days and I had been moved to first on the list, they had 50 waiting for the BLNR! So, got the call today and went to pick it up and what a beautiful watch. I must admit it is more comfortable than my Sub and I have really warmed to the PCL's and date feature over time, changing tastes I guess. Now for the hard part, I need to decide on whether to keep the Sub or not. I've justified it by telling myself there are enough differences to own the two, (PCL v brushed centre links, date feature, weight, thickness, bezel, diver v GMT etc) but the truth is that they are very similar and it's plain to see for all. What do you guys think? (Anything to justify keeping it eh? Thanks for reading and sharing this incoming with me TRF, pics below as per the norm here... Have a good weekend! Dee |
