High creatinine experience ?

Hello,

Just got a blood test that showed a creatinine level of 1.41.
Last year a small growth was found on one kidney from a sonogram. Urologist said that is not uncommon.
I'm going for another sonogram next week.

Anyone that is between 45-65 years old have experience with an elevated creatinine?

Thank You,
Worried Clock

I have had high creatinine on and off for years. Never worried about it, but had a sonogram and it showed a couple of benign cysts. So saw a Kidney specialist and he said I had Stage 3 Renal Insufficiency. He felt the cause was frequent use of NSAIDs, since I used Aleve every day for 6 months for shoulder pain (recommended by orthopedist).

Anyway, no real symptoms but I am banned from all NSAIDs for ever, and will get blood test every 6 months to make sure creatinine does not increase.

So no Advil or Aleve, but otherwise just live my life. I turn 67 this month.

Hope that helps.

My late father had high creatinine levels which was primarily due to his failing renal system. He had to go through dialysis and it kept him alive for another 2 years. My dad had pretty bad ailments overall; high blood pressure, hyper tension, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, and RLS. His life could of been prolonged further if he would of changed his diet. He more or less ate himself to death, but at least he went out his own way. He was 76 when he passed away.

Hopefully your case isn't this bad and that you and your doctors have the opportunity to rectify the problem. I wish you luck!

It can be from dehydration, lowered blood levels, or even eating a lot of meats. It can also be a signal of a kidney problem since the kidneys are not clearing the creatinine in your blood; hence the elevated level. I wish you the best, and hope it's nothing.

Mine was .98 mg/dL at my last blood draw on June 16.

Normal range is .66-1.25 per the VAMC.

Dumpers. Every time I go for a blood test they rush me off for a sonogram or or pee in a plastic bottle over a day!! Everything always ends up fine. Maybe some people predisposed

Thanks, John.

Not so young, I'm afraid.

I've always tried to keep myself healthy, even given some of the bad habits I've had and beaten.

These last years that my weight went up as a result of my celebrating reaching retirement in one piece affected my blood pressure, leading me to this most recent weight loss effort. My BP has gotten high before and I've always beaten it without meds, simply by altering my diet.

I'm too old to push fate from here on out. It's time to get hardcore.

I do have hypothyroidism that I take meds for, but I don't think that's related to any bad habits of the past. From what I'm told, the thyroid sort of burns out in some folks over time.

That is a freaky coincidence I just had a blood test last week and exactly the same higher than usual creatinine levels , I did the pee in the cup test and also did a kidney bladder sonogram , everything looked fine

Yesterday the nurse took a follow up blood sample to see if it was still elevated , I await the results , wtf I have some nice bruising around where she took blood from , didn't hurt at the time

Portion control: simple and effective but not easy. Good job.
Fortunately, my weight is fine as long as I don't buy three containers of ice cream and finish them in 3 days.

I had a bladder stone removed last year so I see the urologist every 6 months.
I hope your numbers go down.
Let us know and I'll share results of my sonogram.

1.41 is not really high. What has the trend of your creatinine been over the past 6 months?

May be related to dehydration, possibly some medications. Most likely not related to the growth on your kidney.

I would recommend repeat creatinine in a week or so. Repeat US probably also reasonable, you may end up getting a CT.

If they are really suspicious, the next step would be a needle biopsy.

Due to BPH I probably should drink more water, but it will mean even more frequent bathroom visits.
The US will be next week. How painful is a needle biopsy? Are benzodiazepines or other meds given before the procedure?

For a patient with CKD, are there foods to definitely avoid aside from red meat?
Thank you
