I like both versions, but prefer the new 2023 over the 2016-2022 version

I think the bezel ring looks so much better. I always preferred the fully steel bezel version over the chunky ceramic one, but now I think the ceramic looks good.

Yes there is some truth to this but they could have improved the legibility of the piece and kept or improved it's looks. I have 2 Daytonas and an IWC 3717 and the IWC is the most legible watch I own while the Daytonas are gorgeous but legibility is among the worst of any pieces I have. Night and day between these 2 chronographs. So I would have preferred if they cleaned it up a bit rather than making it look busier and more unga patchka.

This is reminiscent of BMW changing the e46 body style and then going turbo and V8. Everybody hated it all.
Until they loved it.

At first glance I thought something about the Daytona re-designs looked off but the more I look the more I love it! I have a feeling this will be the same for many over time.

Things that matter to WIS don't matter to commonfolk. Rich gents/ladies only know it a Daytona and "want" it. That's all that matters.

I did not appreciate the Gen3 design until I saw the Zen4 design.

I hated the 4 door Jeep when it first came out. Now I think the 2 door Jeep looks small and weird. This WG OF Daytona is really great!

Totally cool, yet my wife is BRUTAL on timepieces (she with diamond DJ36 who has accidentally scratched TWO different watch crystals of mine!). Thus the outer metal around the bezel has the ability to better 'protect her' from destroying the ceramic insert.

Personally, I like all of the changes Rolex has made to the Daytona, and much prefer the newer one.
But, Mystro, what matters for you is if you prefer yours. Seems like you do, strongly. |

This is true. I may even try to grab a black or possibly PM model of the 11 series before prices start to rise. Will see. I am gonna let all this settle with fresh eyes and a good cigar later. I am going to visit DavidSW store in 2 weeks. That could be trouble.

so these new dimensions on the daytona, as well as the ring around the bezel, are we seeing these on ALL new daytonas? or just the stainless steel variants?

If it hasn't been mentioned already, I think the steel frame on the bezel looks great but also probably protects the cerachrome bezel from damage from side hits. I was always concerned with the bare bezel being exposed; it could crack from impacts.

I keep seeing people here mention that the rim will protect the ceramic.... How many of you have actually cracked a ceramic bezel....

Fully agree. The new design is better in all respects although it's not what many were expecting.

They’re double dipping knowing all new Daytonas will sell out anyway. This way the CPO market stays red hot with the JM, PN, chocolate, platinum with baguettes, all meteorites and blue white gold. Those were the best of the best for the Daytona and all negativity changed or outright discontinued. Also we all wanted a 41mm case but if they did that all previous models would also have taken a hit. They had so many clear ways to improve the line but instead changed things that were perfect to begin with for no clear reason. |

I have never owned or cared for Daytona. What changes did they make exactly?

I'm digging the new ring around the bezel, though I prefer the old hour markers. If this softens prices for the previous version, I'm on board.
The Daytona is a cool watch though I found it should be a true 40mm at the least, and probably better at 41 or 42mm. |

I like the look of the new model, but admittedly had the same concern over the ring being a huge liability.
Every little knock is going to leave a divot tin that metal ring. I think Rolex added it so they can charge more at service to change them out. It’s obviously gonna get chewed up if worn often. |

The metal ring I posted in the other thread is what ruins the watch for me. SS has been neutered IMO.

I’m not a fan of the metal ring around the bezel. I’ve been pretty hard on my current ceramic Daytona as I’ve worn it since 2016 and the full cerachrome has really held up beautifully. I’ve owned plenty (at least 6, still have 2) of the steel bezel Daytonas and the bezel edges did take a beating and look shitty.
That being said, I’ll still get my hands on a pair of new ones and likely get rose gold oysterflex. Meterorite is no longer an option on the website so that is sad but those were impossible watches to get. Last edited by sawhornsoff; 28 March 2023 at 05:11 AM.. Reason: Spelling |

I had a gmt rosegold gmt, where the bezel to some very heavy beating as well. I might just have been lucky, but I don't think one has to be too concerned. Sendt fra min SM-F711B med Tapatalk |

Making changes to a flagship type model is always gonna be polarizing. Some will now flock to the previous gen before they are gone and others will get in line for the new version.
Regardless they will sell every unit they produce. I’ll reserve judgement until I see them in person. |
