They're fun and do not detract from their regular luxury line in the slightest. Rolex paired with Tissot wouldn't affect a Daytona one bit

Depends for which brand. Brilliant for the Swatch brand and absolutely absurd for Omega. It would be like Rolex deciding to collab with Timex. Why in the world would you want to put your name on a cheap, gimmicky watch and brand when you already have more reach and brand awareness then you know what to do with. It just cheapens your brand.

I agree. I already have a special speedmaster but if I can add one of these I would wear the Swatch more than my actual Omega.

It's the look that does it. So why would I spend 6-10k euro on a real Omega when one of these does the trick.

Hopefully next up a Seamaster.

Exactly.

These would be great kids' watches but 42 mm is too big for kids. Should be 36 mm.

By the way, imagine dropping 2k usd/euro on a plastic watch from a grey. Ludicrous.

To the guys who think this cheapens the Speedy or Omega as a whole: No one is going to be cross shopping these with mechanical Speedys. It's either going to be an addition to a collection or a purchase by someone who wasn't going to buy a Speedy anyway. Initially, at least. These might be the gateway, and I'm sure that was at least part of the plan.

Well out of two non quartz people, they didn't get one but have managed to convince another. They've already won.

I agree. I think it could lead to more people buying a real Speedmaster.

I’d never buy one of these. I’m not the target market. I’d just buy another Speedmaster before I’d buy one of these, but from a marketing perspective, I think this is a pretty good idea.

I tend to agree. Hopefully they come out with smaller variations to really target the youth market.

I am going to try to get them here in Seoul this Sat. It will be available in one swatch store in Korea and it's pretty close to my house. They open at 10:30 so may head out around 6 or 7am. Takes me back to the days when I would line up for sneaker drops!
Limit is 2 per person...so will try to pick up the uranus (for the wife) and trying to decide between pluto (burgundy/creme) or neptune (blue).

The larger world would say the same thing about dropping 40K for a piece of stainless steel with the words Cosmograph Daytona on the front. Marketing and hype be marketing and hype.

My Swatch AD who I’ve spent a couple hundred with down the years, laughed at the idea of these being readily available.

However, they said I could have one if I bought £300 worth of Flik-Flaks. Screw these AD games!

For that reason, I am out.

Yeah, but that’s different. Not in the same category at all.

According to the Swatch Instagram feed, while only available at stores now, they will be sold online at a later date!

I take your point, but one of the reasons I like this collaboration so much is precisely because it's something a more conservative brand like Rolex would never do. I suspect I'm not the only one.

Stamping a dominos logo on a rolex dial for a special order is completely different than 2 watch brands collaborating and making something at a fraction of the price/quality of the original

Seeing how most of the gripes about this collaboration seem to be about tarnishing the image of Omega as opposed to the quality of the watches themselves.. You don't see how a chain pizza brand's logo on the vaunted Rolex might be seen the same way?

These contrasting reactions were to be expected. I'm not even sure what kind of "move" this really is / will become, I only know that:
  • At 250CHF, I won't worry too much if it's a hit or miss.
  • It's primarily a Swatch. I have no problem with Swatch fans enjoying a "Speedmaster Tribute"
  • It will have NO influence on my appreciation for my three Speedmasters
  • It's a PRODUCTION run, not LE, so I won't be standing in any line for one.

Personally, I don’t think so. The stamped rolex dials have only become more collectible. These moonswatches aren’t speedmasters with a swatch logo stamped on them, they are basically swatches with a speedy design. The quality of a speedy can’t be there. Whereas the quality of the rolex is there and to some, worth a premium because of the logo.

I'm glad they are clarifying this. That should help keep the prices down a bit on the grey market. Maybe not initially but it will help in the long run.
