Icon13 The TAG in TAG Heuer

One of my favorite watch brands. But I think it’s time to just go with Heuer again.

In my opinion the TAG branding has cheapened the marque now and quite frankly, the best ones were always from the Heuer era.

Thoughts?

Totally agree. I don’t think of the brand as Avant Garde at present.

TAG hasn't had ownership of Heuer in 20yrs, but they won't drop it because it's just "Tag" to everyone now and they will leave it that way.

Majority know it as TAG. For the few that reminisce about the Heuer days, they have released Heuer only branded pieces.

I disagree...

TAG Heuer is the brand that made me first interested in watches during high school. After college I bought a used Link auto chronograph as my first nice watch and started visiting forums. Only then did I learn about what "TAG" stood for and some of the history.

Losing the red and green logo would be disappointing to me. Plus, I negatively associate the solitary Heuer branding with vintage, box crystal pieces that aren't my style and too small for my wrist.

I've had a couple dozen TAG Heuer watches in the past, but currently there isn't one in my collection. Right now, the only ones that I'm interested in buying are the Monaco model CAL5113 and Carrera model CAR2B11. I agree that their current design isn't very cutting edge, but don't think they should change the branding.

I guess I am indifferent. Tag got me into watches in high school. I still have my first. Tag SEL. I also have a Monaco and Tourbillion.

I like their style but like I said I guess I am completely indifferent on the name.

Like most above, TAG was “the” watch to have in high school. I wasnt able to own one then.

Coincidentally, my last boss uses TAG’s facilities in Europe for handling and maintenance of his jet.

But both my TAGs now are Heuer branded modern reissues.

While I acknowledge that much of the brands recognition with "younger" generations is related to the TAG era, my preference is the same as Chewbacca's -- would love to see the return to Heuer.

Alternatively, they could keep the modern offerings and innovations under the TAG Heuer label, and then have a separate product line simply branded as Heuer. Perhaps specializing in vintage-inspired designs and reissues.

The watch geek says just Heuer, the sentimentalist in me says TAG Heuer.

The kid in me says who cares, have fun

This.

Don't think dropping the name now will help their business. If anything, they should have done it 20 years ago.

Tag makes some nice watches. I feel like the pricing is a bit off especially for brand new.

Isn't this what they do already?

I’d leave it alone. Tag Heuer doesn’t get a lot of love, but they make more models I’d buy and wear than Tudor. That’s for sure.

Tag don’t need to change anything I wouldn’t think. They don’t get the love from this forum (myself included) but they don’t need to. It’s a brand for people that want a reasonably priced good looking watching, it doesn’t need to be a brand for nerds (myself included once again!).

Perception is perhaps the biggest problem. You can hardly call it luxury when you can buy a used TAG for $300. It was the brand I started my hobby with, and never had any issues with their watches. Quality was also great.
