The FINAL Word (For this week) On Winders
I know this has been beaten to death on multiple occasions and threads, but I'm trying to get some personal closure on the topic.
I have a DeepSea (first and only Rolex so far), an IWC DaVinci, a Seiko Pogue, and an Accutron SpaceView II Kinetic, among some Accutrons and the odd quartz watch. I've got four Chiyoda winders in the safe, and they all simply quit after a few cycles. I've put in new batteries, replaced the motor in one, but to no avail. They all simply poop out after a few days. So what is the thinking on winders these days? Are the necessary to keep the watches healthy or should I just let them run down and restart when I want to wear one or the other? For those who vote for winders, have you had better experiences with a particular brand? I suppose Wolf is still the best, though pricey. Still, if that's what it takes to keep my collection happy... Many thanks!! |

I have had several winders and use them primarily for watches with significant complications which I would like to keep running. I do not believe they significantly wear a movement beyond the standards of routine service. The SwissKubiK winder is the one I have found is most reliable over the long run. They work with either AC or batteries so fine for a safe.

I have two wolf triple-watch winders. They’ve been brilliant and not only is it convenient, they look good on my desk.

The FINAL Word (For this week) On Winders
Unless you want to keep a QP set correctly, then not necessary
That said if you don’t like manual winding or setting dates across multiple pieces, then go for it. There are plenty of winders that would cost more than most watch collections. Check out https://www.buben-zorweg.com/en/mast...winders-cases/ For something high end if wolf doesn’t cut the mustard.

Thanks to all for your answers.
I don't need the most expensive winders, but I do want something that will work if I do go the winder route. My cheapie Ciyodas simply crap out after a few days, even with new batteries and an external battery pack with fresh new D-calls. I've only got 50 or 60 in each winder, but that's too much for something that doesn't work at all. |

I have 4 watches with complications that I don't like letting wind down (perpetual calendar, complete calendar, 2 annual calendars) that I keep on winders.
The rest of my watches rotate in and out of the safe deposit box and spend 1 month in the house and 3 months in the safe deposit box. When they're home, they're on winders.... obviously, when they're in the bank, they're not. I have a few Wolf winders (from when I kept my whole collection at home), but, honestly, my favorite winder is this one that I got from Amazon. It looks good, is convenient, and has worked flawlessly. 8 watch winder |

Wolf are great. Your wrist is the best. I’d only use a winder for watches with complications.

Not necessary. Nice to have if you rotate 3-4 watches per week. I prefer orbita Sparta winders for their inability to top off the mainspring.
I also own a Wolf triple winder that I never use after getting the orbitas but it was fine. Just a bit large for the safe.

I have had one of these since 2013 which I bought off eBay for A$90.
I run it off mains power however, and it is still running fine (touch wood). This is a photo off eBay and it is identical to mine. I cannot imagine why use of the battery option would be so unreliable when the mains power works so well.

I'm waiting for the internal combustion engine analogy. Always makes me laugh.

I have 5 Rolex watches. I change what I’m wearing almost daily. I keep them on winders so that I can change the watch that I’m wearing and go. Wether or not it has anything to do with the watches health or lifespan is not part of my decision. That is what works for me and my enjoyment of my watches.
I have been using Wolf for over 5 years. They are in my bedroom on a desk and not on display. They are quiet which is important while I sleep. |

I like keeping my watches on a winder because it’s so convenient. I like to be able to just grab a watch and go.
I have two winders from Orbita. They are both double units. The winders are great and I highly recommend them. They also have a great service department. I just had one of the motors die after more than ten years of constant service and sent it to the them for replacement. American company (North Carolina) so I like that as well. |
