11Platona vs. 12Platona
I would like to hear your opinion on the older reference 116506 vs. the new reference 126506, specifically with the baguette diamond dial as shown in the pictures. Would it be an upgrade or a downgrade to switch to the newer version in your opinion?
Also, does anyone know of the weight difference between both references? Mine weighs 282.80g, did this weight get reduced slightly due to the sapphire caseback or stay about the same with the slightly modified case proportions? Cheers! |

For me the 11 is a much nicer looking dial. If it was the non baguette version I would opt for 12.

I like the 11, the diamonds make the 12 look tacky IMO

11 is a lot nicer, for the baguette version. It's unique.

I'm not following with the diamonds really being all that different on the 12. They just look a little more elongated by a negligible amount.

The 11 is much better. I also don’t love the exhibition case back on the 12. The non-brown sub-dials on the 11 make it more special, overall (in my humble opinion).

I agree with the diamonds, only slightly different on the new version. The biggest difference is certainly the brown subdials on the 12 vs. the cleaner look of the dial with the ice blue subdials on the 11 reference.

I'll preface by saying i'm not a Daytona guy, but those look so similar that there is no reason to trade from one to the other.

The case back is a nice addition on the new ref, but the dial on the 11 baguette is nicer and unique. Hard choice if I had to to choose

They’ve ruined the 12 series baguette dial Platona.

Newer all day long. 12 is the best Daytona in the history of Daytonas. All other Daytonas pale in comparison, including vintage ones that feel like dainty little toys.

Completely missed that somehow. That's glaringly obvious! Yeah, the 11 looks better when considering that!

The 116506-001 looks so much cleaner to the eye. I think the proportions on the dial are better

I own the 116 and I bought it because I did not like brown subdials and love the all ice blue dial and the baguettes give it some spice.

The other Rick beat me to it. When I got mine i was thinking was getting the non baguette version 116506 but the baguette is what the AD and i gladly accepted once i saw it in person. The 116 version with baguettes is the way to go. Just doesn’t look right to me with the brown subdials and the baguettes,. I might be biased though

the 116 because it just looks so much cleaner without brown subs on it, although I admit I DO love the display caseback on the 126

11 is my choice on Platona and SS Daytonas, but I agree regarding the vintage Daytonas which are all hype after the charity auction, and this link with an actor. Are they buying the watches because they like them or because one was owned by an actor and was sold for millions on a charity auction.

The baguette dial on 12 doesn’t feel much more special compared to the standard dial because the subdials are brown on both. On the 11 the baguette dial is more special with the same color subdials. But the case on the 12 looks better especially the endlinks (flush to the case on the 12/ not flush to the case on 11). Hard choice.

The 11 dial with baguettes is the standout for me. Much better looking with the full ice blue dial.

The picture of the 11 above doesn't really show the sub dials properly.
Here's my 11. |

Quite frankly, I’d take either one.

I’ve owned both. Couldn’t feel the weight difference when wearing, but never actually put either on a scale.
As far as being “worth it” to switch….I’d say it’s all a personal choice in aesthetics. I personally like the contrasting sub-dials, so the new version with baguettes is the best of both worlds, although from a few feet away you’d be hard pressed to know if it’s the regular dial or baguette dial. That’s the nice thing about the 11 baguette dial, it’s unmistakable. The ring around the bezel isn’t that noticeable in person, other than making the bezel look a bit thinner to my eyes. The case back on the 12 is nice, and the movement is ok to look at, but I could take it or leave it, it’s not a movement I personally would spend any significant time looking at. The thinner sub-dials are noticeable but kind of sharpens the dial up a little bit, if that makes sense? I’d say they go along nicely with the narrower/sharper hour markers on the non baguette version. However…the 11 baguette dial is truly stunning, and if I did own it, because I chose it for that dial specifically…I’d probably hold onto it. |
