trip to AD & dd40 size confirmation

So after getting my first DD this week, a mint 36 with solid links ect, I had this thing in the back of my mind that I should have went 40. So went to a local ad which had exactly the same watch but in 40 to try, perfect being they only had 5 total watches over 36mm but I digress.

Wife said it looked good (even after hearing the price), sa said ti looked good, I thought it looked good, but it just didn't feel good for some reason, didnt sit right on the wrist. Which is what I thought, I dont know if the lugs are sharper or something but didn't feel right.

I passed, funny part is, there was an older gentlemen next to me who I didn't notice wearing pretty much the same ref I had on (the 36). He gave me the nod of approval and we had a small chat about old man watches (I am 39).

In any case, a lot of chums asking advice on what to get, while its fun, I think the piece has to speak to you. Too bad they dont make a DD39 I think it would be perfect!

oh and for all those wondering on what the ad had in the case

ss yachtmaster
ss and rose yacht
tt sky in window
yg white romans dd and same watch with silver dial

sa says they get watches all the time just not enough, dont have a waiting list, each sa just has a list of people they know are interested, so I gave her some refs I was interested in and told her to call me that I was looking to possible switch AD

I think the DD40 is a great looking watch but own and prefer the 36mm. Just wear what looks and feels good to YOU and you are set.

Looks spot on to me, but who cares what I think .....as you say it is how it looks/feels to you that counts. Enjoy your watch, you are indeed a lucky man to own such a great reference.

Yeah it’s hard to walk away when you got the go ahead, it just physically was uncomfortable!

I could do it as a secondary piece though........

That's what makes watch-collecting great! We all have different opinions, and the DD36 works perfectly for you and you validated that by trying the DD40.

I personally love the proportions of the DD40. All of my watches (save for the Reverso ) are in the 38-42mm range, so the DD40 was perfect for me.

Yes, Rolex sizes are all over the place and aren't what they claim. The DD40 is 38 something, the Daytona is 38.5, the DJ41 is 39.5, etc. All lies!

From that picture it looks uncomfortable because you need to size it properly. Trying it on like that wont help with fitment.

It looks like the top side of the watch is too high and the fact is not sitting flat on your wrist. All you need to do is get a re-arrange the links (i.e) move 1 from the top side of the bracelet to the bottom.

Its easy to get a good fitment from a DD40. The links contour to your arm no matter the shape its not like an oyster bracelet.

DD40 kills the DD36 imho. There is no comparison to me and your wrist looks like it needs the 40mm anyway. 36mm looks a tad small on your from your above picture.

Actually it probably was only abojt 1 link too big, I usually let me watch hang around my wrist bones towards my hand, I just don’t think I could do it as an eveyday, but maybe I will haha

I would wear it and not think about it for a year and if you still want the 40 trade it in. But what you have is nice.

36mm looks to have a better taper.

Its like the old subs vs new ones.

both look good on you actually. the dd40 isn't big at all, but good that you have peace of mind now with your decision. the dd40 is a lot of gold so i know where you're coming from

Thanks man, I like how I kind of wear the watch more than it wears me, not only from a size perspective but from general style, the smaller watch with less bezel kind of blends in with the tattoos

Hey I turn 40 next year so maybe 40 for 40?? I think wearing it for a year is a good idea, who knows maybe I can get somethjng plat by then? Love that glacier

yeah the 36 has enough presence especially in yellow gold. at least you have a choice though if anything. i have small wrists so could only go with the 36, but have no regrets

+1 This was my impression here. You look like you’re pretty strong, large arms, wrists — the DD40 seems like it would fit you perfectly.

My wrists are 6.25+ and the DD40 is so comfortable...wear it 24x7.

+1. Agree. Own 36 and 40mm. 40mm all the way on my small 6.75 wrist.

Not a criticism at all, however I am wondering if wearing the watch that far down on the wrist is comfortable.

I think the angle of my shots make it look like I wear it further down than normal. I wear my watches closer to the end of my wrist (near the hand), which I thought was the standard!
