1665 sea-dweller #3,520,000 1973

Hello,
I have a chance to buy a SeaDweller from 1973 3,500,000 Serial number with a replacement Great White face, it looks OK but I like the double red.
How hard do you think it would be to find an original Double Red face? And what would it cost?

Seems like it would be easier to just buy a double red if that's what you really want. A lot of trouble to go through to find a good one. How good of a price?

I thought i would offer 15K, it has replacement back, band and bezel too, but those do not bug me.

Very expensive... if you're lucky to find one. Then you have to think of matching the color of the hands etc.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone sell a loose dial. Loose red sub dials, with flaws, go for north of 10k. I can’t imagine how much double reds would go for. Double maybe?

There is so much replaced, that it barely sounds like the watch it is supposed to be.
Are you even certain the case is original?

I can understand replacing a couple of small items but it sounds like you would basically be creating a second watch.

OK, thank you all for your input, the watch is on eBay and ending Sunday. I have been watching it and it has original papers but a lot of replacement parts. I thought if I could get it for 15K (currently under 7K, no reserve) and throw 10K in parts I could have
a nice double red for 25K with papers.

I wouldn't buy a poor example and hope to soup it up after the fact. It'll be a whole world of hurt and expense finding the parts, and it might never feel quite right.

Just save your pennies buy what you want in the first place. Vintage Rolex isn't the place to be cost-cutting.

Nice double reds with papers sell for north of $60,000. Original dials are way past $15,000, try double that figure.

The case on that 1665 doesn’t look right. The serial number engraving is not the right font.

Agree, on the bottom is my SDDR from 1972, look at the difference...
Probably rewritten to match the warranty

I’d rather have root canal than tackle a headache like that 1665 on eBay.

In the vintage Rolex world, there are rarely shortcuts to nice pieces. In this case, I’d highly recommend getting a real DRSD, if funds allow, or saving some money and getting a nice, correct “Great White.”

I sold mine to a friend I wasn’t advertising it for sale it was just in a conversation, I also do have a Patent Pending 1665 MK2 Thin case and was advised $110k by a NYC dealer friend that sort of got me interested but not enough to advertise or seriously consider selling but it’s reassuring to know it has appreciated
