Fantastic. I think the pre-70 Datejusts are the best they made (with the exception of adding quickset).

That 1601 looks in great condition I have 1966 1601 and absolutely love it. Nice watch
Don't worry about that, use a little polywatch (or I've even heard of some people using tooth paste) and the scratches will be all gone.

I don't think you can and even if you could, it's much easier and cheaper to simply polish it. Another thing to remember is that a acrylic crystal may scratch but it doesn't shatter like a sapphire crystal. Therefore, if you did accidentally drop you watch or hit it against something hard and broke the crystal, you'd just have to get the crystal replaced which isn't expensive. However, replacing a shattered sapphire crystal would require a service. Anyway, just some things to ponder. Below are some instructions on how to polish your crystal.
How do I remove the scratches from an acrylic crystal? Good old-fashioned toothpaste is a good start. Start by buffing a little bit onto a clean cloth over the area of the scratch. Rub lightly, and rinse with a very slightly damp cloth. Repeat until gone. Note that there are also purpose-made polishes for this purpose, such as Polywatch or Crystal-Kleer

Nice watch! Looks like the DateJust I inherited of my late father. I think mine has a sapphire crystal glass as dad said it is difficult to scratch. the glass is quite thick though.

I have a 1601 that has a sapphire conversion replacement crystal and have had no problems, it has passed the watertight test several times since I had it done. You can check them out at horologist.com. I think it improves the look, and no worries about scratches or having to polish an acrylic one.

Leave the plastic crystal alone, except for a polish! It looks fantastic. A sapphire crystal on this would be a shame.

Yours is in great condition! Looks identical to mine, year 1976. I would not change the crystal if I were you because it's the plastic that makes it vintage.

Love the plastic! To me, it's part of the draw of vintage watches. Don't try to replace it!

She's a beauty, the classic Rolex. Leave the crystal alone, that's one of the things that makes it look vintage.

Acrylic works great, and it's cheap to replace. All the famous, vintage Rolex have acrylic. I have never broken one. I like sapphire, but would never pass up an older Rolex because it had an acrylic crystal.
