Need help identifying Old Perpetual Rolex

Hi Everyone,

Just found this old Rolex in my father-in-law's desk. Its in really bad shape as you can tell but was wondering if anyone has any ideas what model this is.

The only markings are on the dial which says " Rolex Perpetual". On the back the serial number is "045692".

When I wind it a few times, unbelievably, I can actually hear it ticking, so I guess that's a good sign.

Not sure if its even real or a fake.

Not sure what to do with it either. Any suggestions and information would be appreciated.

George

I opened the back tonight as it was very easy and took some additional photos. Is it worth any kind of salvaging efforts? Anyone? Please? I don't know what to do with it.

This is when the dial came off:

Then with the back cover off:

The finally the inside of the back cover:

Interesting watch.. probably covered in Dowlings "Best of Time". Bombe' lugs, bubble-back, etc...

Restoration could be handled by a good Rolex Restorer such as Bob Ridley ad Watchmakers.com . It just depends on if you want to invest the time and money.........

Thanks Jeff and Larry for the advice. Its helped me get a good start on understanding more about this watch. I've been searching and reading on the Internet for the last few hours as a result of your advice. I'm going to look into this some more and hope it would lead to a fun journey. Thank you again.
