Che Guevara had his GMT on Moscow time. I'm from Russia so that's how I also prefer mine.

The GMT hand can also be used as a compass.

Set the 24 hour hand to the correct time zone and hold the watch flat. Point the small hour hand towards the sun and note which way the 24 hour hand is pointing, as this is the hand which is pointing North.

There is an explanation in the booklets.

mine being a 1675 is always on home time and I twist the bezel to local, I've also used the 24 hr hand as a sort of compass a couple of times when I'm out in the woods and uncertain of the direction I need too be going in. It doesn't replace a real compass but handy in a left, right or straight ahead situation.

Use it however it best suites your lifestyle.

Personally, I use it for travel and set the 24 hr hand to local time, then jump the hour hand to the time zone I travel to.
I do the same. When I’m home I set the 24 hour hand to the time zone of the people that I’m doing business with, usually US Pacific or Central. Next week Singapore.

It’s a very handy (no pun intended) complication.

I have it in New York (or EST) time. Being the Head of Foreign News Desk in the biggest private TV channel in Greece, I need to know the time in the Eastern part of US.

I always leave the 24 hour hand on my home time - the place where I'm traveling FROM. I set the hour hand to the local time - the place where I'm traveling TO.
