5970R vs 5980/1R

People always like the 5980/1R, but 5970R is also cool.

Lets vote!

5970R not even remotely a close fight contrary to what IG hypebeasts might tell you. Like asking if I would rather knock boots with Meghan or the queen.

These two are really at different ends of the PP Spectrum so it is really a personal choice of what comps and style suit you.

Never thought about that comparison before, altho you can actually make that Meg v Kate now and it still applies, much like with the two brothers now, and their father and the bad uncle - heirs and spares hey, tale as old as time.

Rather unfair comparison, 5980 stands no chance in a head to head IMHO.

5970 by a 1000 miles, but it not really fair to compare them together.

Quite simply because Patek produced less of them. Supply and demand. If Patek produced a ton of 5970 and very few 5270 the opposite would be true.

If I remember correctly the Lemania movement was finished by Patek to a higher degree than if it was strictly Lemania put in the watch. It’s certainly a better movement than the in-house one in the 5980. That’s subjective but I doubt anyone would argue otherwise.

Without question correct on both accounts. Patek was thorough in its sprucing up of the lemania. If you have doubts compare it to the lemania omegas.

While the 5980 features an in house Patek chrono its not comparable to the manual wind PCC in the 5970 at all.

PCC is the best series in Patek IMO.

Post like these make me feel that we need two folders in The Rolex Forums.
1. Patek Philippe
2. Patek Phillippe for Instagram.

I would say that your folder 2 should say "Patek Philippe for the Current Market"

Why? Cause there’s so much traffic coming through the Patek section of TRF? Without the nautilus and aqua crowd... there would be like minimal traffic.

That said Happy holidays

same as the 5070R vs 5711 poll/ question

You just can't be serious if you prefer any Nautilus above any 5070/5970 or any 5170/5270

I just checked the result ...
29 votes for the bling nautilus ....

I'm not that far from giving up this forum LOL

come on , really ???
Guys, buy some Patek books, buy books about haute horlogerie, buy books about independents, about hand finishing, about ...

And throw away your smartphone and stop looking at the f&cking Instagram, it's not good for you if you're not long enough into watches, you are brainwashed

:-)

You should check the rolex forums, people prefer that platinum daytona over the 5712R. Only 30% voted patek.

I sort of hear you Bruno but not everyone likes say Philip Dufour...I think aesthetically his watches are the most boring watches I have ever seen even if little elves used magic dust polishing little screws until they were almost blind from concentration. The same gives for RWS. Now that we have proved that I am a heathen I have to say neither of the two choices give me sleepless nights!!! But I just prefer a PC to a chrono hence my choice. although I find any PC manual wind to be enough of a pain that i would never set it....i dont quite get that giddy feeling winding my watches, changing dates, months, moon phases or whatever when rushing off to work

I prefer the non-Nautilus, whichever one it is. It is gorgeous. That Nauti is for gangstas.
