Finally convinced the wife
Last month I convinced her to give Rolex a try (she was into TAGs). Now she has two of them and switches back and forth. She’s finally into watches, which I used as an excuse to finally pull the trigger on a Big Pilot (48 mm).
Anyway, glad she’s into them now. Here’s a dual wrist picture before lunch: |

Congrats to your wife AND to you! Very nice. My wife finally started showing interest in Rolexes after a few years of me owning two and dragging her into AD's to try them on every chance I got. So she's getting a DJ31 RG/SS with diamond bezel for Christmas. I'll have to wait and see if it opens our joint coffers for a third watch for me...

Well played. How about some photos of that IWC beast you’ve acquired?? Always had that one on my shortlist of cool watches.

Let’s see some pics of the Pilot. Just place it next to a Rolex so you don’t get hammered

Alright for those of you who asked for it. Here’s the Big Pilot next to the two biggest models Rolex makes - I can’t even imagine wearing the 55mm version of the Big Pilot. That must be ridiculous.

And just in case you are wondering, this is the IWC Big Pilot Heritage IW510301 Titanium.
The dial is 48 mm and the watch is one out of 1,000 made. This watch comes with the classic extra long brown leather strap (so you can Strap the watch over a fighter pilot jacket) but I chose to replace the strap with this IWC Black Kevlar Strap with the IWC Deployant Clasp. I think it looks amazing with the black strap (not that it looks bad with the brown strap!), the only thing I really miss are those rivets in the strap. Those look super nice and give the Big Pilot its signature look but these straps have their own benefit, like fitting under my sleeve for example. |

I got my wife a stainless and platinum Yachtmaster when she got her doctorate. It was posed so nicely with the mens version that I picked that up too!

Congratulations to you both. Very nice.
Reminds me of when i went to buy my Wife a Rolex over 20 years ago. I ordered and paid in full for a SS Ladies, can't even remember the exact set up dial etc. Thought ahead and did this months before Christmas, so it would be ready for me to pick up as her Christmas box. Came back on leave and went to pick it up Christmas eve, alas no watch. Although they did have one in TT which was a lot more and to be honest at the time i just did not have the extra money spare. SA was a right stroker, "Oh if Sir can't afford this watch" and a load more right bollocks in a stage whisper, really embarrassed me. Shop was packed. So ensues a big row about wanting my money back in cash, i paid cash and its Christmas eve late afternoon. They wanted to send me a Cheque from head office!! Eventually gets the knotty ash back. Walks up the street and bought a TT ladies Tag. Really nice sales lady, wrapped it all up, nice bow etc. Plus ended up with some cash in my moth eaten pockets. My wife loved and still loves the watch and it has not been off her wrist in all that time. Been trying for years to upgrade it and she won't part with it. Its now a family joke, Poor Mams pretend Rolex. Its her 50th next year so its on the cards for a Rolex. So well done Sir, i tip my hat to you. |

That IWC is a big beast indeed, certainly too big for me...but I love the dial so legible and clear. And there's a ton of history behind IWC "Fliegeruhren" if you care to read about them! My Rolex AD stocks IWC, and I always enjoy looking at them! Maybe one day...?

I have a few 47mm Panerai, they take a while to get used to after wearing even the YMII

Not everyone can rock the IWC big pilot.
I have a wide flat wrist and I’m not sure I can rock the BP! Congrats on bringing your wife over to the dark side.

Bad start to be honest...!
Got my wife a PP in the past and tried to get her into watches (mainly so I can buy more without any grief). Eventually I have succeeded and what happens..? She starts borrowing from me - one day it’s the SD4k and another it’s the Daytona. Go to my winder and will never know if one of my watches is missing... Now on the lookout for a BLNR (for me!) and she casually drops “when you getting us the Batman?” Wait... what !?!? Where did this “us” come from? Then again, it’s better than the alternative!
