Why are SkyDweller prices not higher?

Since the Sky Dwellers are far and few in between...either at ADs or greys...why are there prices on the secondary market not higher? Supposedly ADs get a fraction of SkyDwellers compared to Daytonas and one would think in the world of mass production this would make the SkyDweller relatively rare. Yet Daytonas as a percentage of MSRP command 100% premium versus 50% for the SkyDweller. I understand demand is a component...just thought that the SkyDweller would be higher in the sky than the Daytona.

The blue dial is rarer than the Daytona, and some ADs don't even get any. PM,TT easily available, and other dials on SS are not hard to get. It's a beautiful watch, but too big for most people, and not popular with ladies like the Daytona, and Hulk. Look at the Deep Sea, and SD 43. They are pure SS Sport, but are easier to get because they are too big for most people. I still haven't been offered any SS Daytona or Hulk from any ADs, but I got offered a SS black and PM Sky Dweller, and have seen Deep Sea, SD43, and PM,TT Sky Dwellers at two ADs.

A lot of people think its has a odd looking dial an usless complication and its way to thick for a non sports reference.

My opinion is that it's all about the niche in the market and niche in the Rolex line up. As a relative newcomer, it hasn't had the time to build the following the established models have.

I'm interested to see how that develops over time.

I would buy it if it were about 2-3 mm smaller in size and thickness.

This is a very good question. I saw the Skydweller pictured below in Paris two weeks ago and wondered why these are in the cases of ADs but not much else? Very attractive and obviously under appreciated watch IMO.

I had a white dial-too bulky even for my 7 1/4 wrist.....I traded the Sky and ultimately got the watch I have always truly wanted.

I prefer bulky watches. The Sky-D was never a popular watch. I'm sure Rolex had a bunch of movements lying around and needed to put them in SS to move them. I do think they are an excellent value for an annual calendar.

I think the SS versions (at MSRP) are the best value in the Rolex lineup. The Calibre 9001 is one of the most complicated movements that Rolex ever developed. Getting an annual calendar & GMT along with the 3-position ring command bezel for $14,400 USD is steel IMO.

It's probably a little too big for a lot of people, a little too expensive for non-enthusiasts when a DJ looks similar, and not iconic (yet) so a lot of people in general don't go into an AD asking for one. Plus, ADs never have SS versions in the case so people only see a PM version for $49K and quickly dismiss it.

It is in the classic category with the DJ and there are many design similarities. However the much larger size makes it like a spaceship just landed on my wrist. The design and complications are so well executed I love the thing, just I shame I can't ever wear one. Miniturisation Rolex, miniturisation. That's all I'm asking for. Sky-d in 38 maybe 40 and you've got a sale here.
Is that too much to ask???

Its a little large and has a fluted bezel so its a bit more dressy than the usual sports which are in highest demand.

Why are SkyDweller prices not higher?

For me it’s 100% because of size, they are too big and thick for me.

Discontinued but looks like you can still find new old stock easily cause of the price it demands. That combo is a beauty. And you get the heft with that WG

The reason it's sitting in the case is because of that price tag

I find the complication and movement interesting and appealingly, but the case dimensions for an annual calendar seem off to me, so no interest in owning one.

Fits my 6 3/4 inch wrist perfectly and has become my favorite Rolex by far. Have the white and blue dials.

The reason is due to supply and demand (like all Rolex pricing on the secondary market).

The demand doesn't exceed the supply by the same degree as the GMTs or Daytonas.

The demand is limited by several factors including the following:

1. Size is too large and case is too thick for many people
2. MSRP is several thousand higher compared to GMTs or Daytonas
3. Annual calendar is not a highly requested complication for Rolex
4. Looks are somewhat polarizing - either you love it or you don't
5. More people want pure sports references vs dressier references like SkyD
6. It's a newer model and doesn't have the history of either the GMTs or Daytonas
7. More people on TRF and Instagram post pictures of the GMTs or Daytonas vs SkyDs.

I love my TT SkyD black and it a great fit on my 7.5" wrist. I found the Daytona too small and the annual calendar and dual time zone are more useful than I chrono which I never use except to watch the hands move.

it looks complicated as hell, and as perpetual calendars go, there are easier options, pricier sure but easier.
