In that case one could easily argue it's not yours, either.

I suspect your AD will catch the mistake and pass it onto someone else.

Keep a spare, in the event you go to Mexico on vacation and get mugged. I hear it’s too dangerous to wear a Rolex.

In all seriousness, mistakes happen. Do the right thing and let the AD know you already got yours. If you don’t and they find out, likely they will no longer do business with you and I wouldn’t blame them.

No, he should wear one on each wrist. If he gets mugged, he can barter his way out of it with one, and keep the other. Like a guy described in the other thread.

And the goal of this poll was to collect your feelings...not any judgement.

Christmas is coming pals...
Pointless response to a pointless thread I suppose. But I’ll bite :-)
As others have pointed out you asked a question, and got responses. Not sure what you are looking for, nor why you’d want to buy the same watch twice if the motivation is not of a financial nature. Forgive my skeptism but I doubt you’ve started a thread requesting advice on if you should buy the same watch twice, because you actually want to own two BLNRs... so let’s be real your ‘dillema’ is almost certainly financially motivated. If BLNRs in the grey market weren't any higher then msrp I doubt very much that you’d have started this thread, and as you can tell by other responses and the overwhelming majority of your poll, most wouldn’t buy it because morally/ethically/karmically or whatever other semantic equivalent you’d prefer to interpret it as, they’d rather allow someone else to have the opportunity then to turn a quick buck. That being said if you want to go ahead and buy it to keep, to flip for a profit or just because you can, then your free to exercise your free will and do what you wish. But you asked for opinions on others views and you got them.

Since you already think I and others are judging you or the situation, I may as well go the whole
Hog And actually pass my judgement... To take the watch would be dishonest, especially knowing the current climate and that there is someone else waiting for that piece. It’s a mistake and it’s not meant for you, and anyone with any sense of morality would pass on it. Only a dick would take the watch.

Ps. When you start a thread titled ‘need advice, lucky day’, with a poll explicitly asking people what ‘you’ should do, and then try to make out that your only asking out of curiosity, your only fooling yourself if you think others wont find that a little hard to believe.

Mistakes happen daily in almost every business. It’s far from inconceivable one sales person didn’t know another had already called you from their “want to buy” list and reached out. It would have never crossed my mind to not reply, “ Hi, thanks for the call but I got mine a few days ago. Happy Holidays!” but that’s just me.

Unless you had always intended on having two there is nothing really to discuss.

Side note, asking for public opinions of an ethical nature but not expecting judgments of said actions is folly. They go hand in hand!

Exactly this.

Some months ago I was sent a 5k cheque from a company we work for.
We weren't owed it.
I called and returned it.
The business that looses that kind of money after working so hard deserves honesty

you should go to pick it up, but make sure a manager is present. Wear your current BLNR, explain their mistake and tell them you want another watch instead of taking a second BLNR. You never know they may have something else in the safe worth taking. And morally speaking, you are still leaving the BLNR for someone else, you are just leveraging it for your favor.

This is the best answer. Then use that to show good faith and put you high up on their list for anything else you request.

Its a watch not an organ…… Free money on the table. Pick it up and and flip it for some other (above list price) watch you wanted, donate the profit to charity, give it some homeless guy on the street or if you are in need for a couple K just cash it in. Since you already have it you wont even risk ruining the ad relationship:)

It depends on what you would do with the watch and what values are. What other watch would you prefer and where would the second purchase put you in relation to getting that watch. At what point did we stop acting in our own interest on things that are not illegal and I would say not unethical. There are many other goods and service that we would not hesitate to take in a second and profit from it. But the watch situation has people sideways and many are applying standards that would have never been used before. Do what you want and move forward.

I asked myself this same question as it is somewhat true, however for me personally the key distinction here that draws it into a question of ethics, is that the watch is being offered by mistake, its clearly known that the AD will have customers waiting for many months and years that this will be intended to be going to next. It wasn’t the AD’s intention to offer up a second BLNR to the OP, and so to ignore that fact and collect the watch without saying anything would clearly be an act of dishonesty, especially after they’ve already done right by the OP in managing to hook him up with a hard to get piece in the first place - not sure how anyone of principle can see it any other way. Now, had the OP freely come across it in a display case at the AD on sale for all, well that’d be a different story...

What should I do ?
Go there and pick this second Batman, or just say that I have already picked up mine ?
