1966 is tough to beat.

Beatles Revolver. Groundbreaking album from them. This was when they made the transition from a pop act to a psychedelic, classic rock band. Huge influence on rock music.

Star Trek came out this year.

James Bond. You Only Live Twice.

I don’t know.. around that time I was watching Happy Days, Different Stokes, etc on TV and they weren’t so bad.

For movies, it was the Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and those are pretty good too.

Elvis, except for electronics we had all the modern conveniences, children were feral yet respectful, manageable crime rates, two parent families, etc …………..

The 1960’s were the beginning of a cultural rot that is still progressing today !

I say the 1960's not out of nostalgia, as much as you had a unified media presence in the US --it hadn't fragmented yet--and the wave of the Boomers. Many changes, many trends and everyone knew about them, whether they agreed or not. The Beatles intro to the US was an unparalleled media phenomenon which hasn't been equalled since. Everyone knew of them and their music.

So you could put 1964 or 1965 down.

Yeah, I agree with you about the 60s. That was also the golden age of TV.

Just to name a few, we had shows like:
  • Star Trek
  • Batman
  • Bewithced
  • Gilligans Island
  • I Dream of Jeanie
  • Get Smart
  • Mission Impossible
  • The Andy Griffith Show
  • The Dick Van Dyke Show
  • Green Acres
  • The Beverly Hillbillies
  • The Monkees
  • Hogans Heros
Some of these were just plain plain silly, but they were also very entertaining and creative. The shows today just can't compete. No politcal agenda with any of these shows either. It didn't matter if you were rich or poor, young or old, Republican or Democrat, these shows had mass appeal.

In terms of music, there were the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Who, Led Zeppelin, Jim Hendrix, and Pink Floyd. I wouldn't say the 60s was the best for music. In fact, I would say the 60,s 70s, 80s, 90s were all equally good. But the 60s is when modern music got kicked off, and you're right about the Beatles. They'll never be a phenomenon like that again.

In terms of movies, it's hard to say what decade was best. You can even make a good case for the 90s being the best in terms of movies. Movies today--just like TV--are awfull.

Tough to call out one particular year. I’d suspect the popular answers from folks would be the year/years/decade(s) they grew up in.
I’m particularly grateful that I was born in 68….have experienced basically 0 technology, 4 or 5 tv channels, rotary phone, encyclopedias, typewriters, etc…
But still young enough to understand, use, enjoy, the modern technologies.

I think there are arguments for every year on the list. I voted 1984. Look at some of these movies:

Karate Kid
Ghostbusters
Terminator
Nightmare on Elm Street
Beverly Hills Cop
Police Academy
The NeverEnding Story
Sixteen Candles

Look at these songs:

“When Doves Cry” by Prince
“Jump” by Van Halen
“The Heart of Rock & Roll” by Huey Lewis & The News
“Sister Christian” by Night Ranger
“Purple Rain” by Prince
“Eyes Without A Face” by Billy Idol
“Thriller” by Michael Jackson
“Round And Round” by Ratt

For TV shows:

Dukes of Hazzard
Magnum, P.I.
Hill Street Blues
Cheers
Family Ties
Knight Rider
A-Team

I was born in 1983, but I remember a lot of the mid 80s pop culture because replays and reruns carried on many years after. I remember 1994 better and almost voted '94 out of nostalgia, but 1984 I felt deserved it.

This could possibly be my favorite as well but every decade had some great times/music/movies.

I do know that it's too bad what we allowed the media to do to us in the last 20 years. Hard to believe many people are going to look back at this era with any nostalgia.
