Spend history for 2 tone root beer?

Hi all,

I have managed to get my first Rolex from an AD recently (a DJ 41). I am also thinking of getting the Tudor heritage chrono that was offered me. Do you think that would be enough to reasonably ask for, and eventually expect, a 2 tone root beer?

Any personal anecdotes would be welcome.

Yes, I think so.
This model is still kind of special and not super in demand. I remember going in with my friend a few years (Oct 2018) back. It was his first watch he bought there and we where long debating if 0% rebate on a bicolour model is reasonable or he should pass. Good thing he bought it.
Of course, times has changed, but I could name 20 Rolex models more in demand than the rootbeer. So yeah, ask for it.

My cousin was offered one without any spend history last year — suffice it to say, it all depends on timing and a bit of luck. You won’t know unless you try!

Really? I've always thought the Rootbeer was a popular model judging from secondary market prices. It's not for me but I'm surprised.

Depends on your location. I was offered a TT Rootbeer after buying an OP41. It's a great watch that looks even better in person than pics.

$0. Find the right AD and you should be getting one in a reasonable time

Location dependent as others have said.

Was offered that watch with no spend history Fall 2022.

Know someone else who had same experience although they went through with the purchase whereas I passed.

Got on the list with 0 previous purchases but also got the Exp2 in three weeks time after being confirmed I'm on the list for CHNR. The final wait was 22 months, got it in December 2022.

Depends entirely on the AD. The best person to ask is the AD. It's the only 12 series GMT Master I've ever seen on display for sale at my AD. I wasn't interested at the time.

In mid 2021 my TT CHNR was supposed to take around 2.5 years and it turned up in 10 months. If anything I would expect it to be "easier" to get now.

"reasonably ask?" What is going on here?

Ask for the watch regardless of purchase history. Ask because you want it.

Depends on the AD, mine doesn’t not consider spend history.

This was a couple years ago, but I initially put my name on the list for the Sub Bluesy. It came in and it did not do it for me, so I changed my mind to the CHNR (Rootbeer). It was only a couple weeks later it came in. Good luck!

No spend history needed for the CHNR at a few ADs in Canada in my experience. I have a friend who got it as his first within 6 months.

Ask for it. You hopefully will get one soon. It still is a TT piece and the big demand is for the SS models. That is to your benefit.

It depends on AD location as others have said. In the GTA you should still be able to obtain in reasonable time. AD's don't receive as many as we think here. I was told only 3 a year from one particular AD.

As a direct comparison I picked one up in June 2021 after I bought a Deepsea (also bought some diamond earrings for the wife) in Jul 2020. My total wait was about 6 months as i asked for it in November.

There are a ton of variables involved in this (such as who else wants the same watch as you do from the same AD), but especially given current economic conditions and the cooling of the secondary market, I personally think there is a very good chance you could get ahold of one from an AD.

Minimal spend and scored a rootbeer late last year. Also, have a decent size wish list pending.

Luck of the draw.

The rootbeer can be had if you hunt around for about 17ish second hand so I am thinking the answer is yes maybe just a bit longer.

CHNR is a beauty. As others stated, it’s easier to get at some ADs and harder at other ADs. It is still a TT, so not as hard as SS Sports.

Got mine not through my local AD, but rather by calling/emailing ADs within driving distance…finally getting a hit. Right time, right place. No prior spend with that AD, but now have a new AD connection.

Most ADs will only sell to locals, hence sometimes impossible to "find" a new AD. I've probably visited 20 ADs around the globe, same story everywhere. "Oh, you're only visiting? Best to get in touch with your local dealer."

Depends on location. Some locations it's harder than Batman, some easier.

You have to ask. YMMV. Always YMMV. You buy more, you get more. But YMMV always.

I referred my business partner to an AD and he got a TT rootbeer as his first watch from them. I think it’s reasonable for you to ask.

I did put my name in, so we’ll see. I only have 1 AD within hundreds of miles of me, so I need to play the game more than most. There are literally 2 sales women here that control the distribution of Rolex’s for 1.5 million people. So, it may seem ridiculous to ask nicely to get a chance to pay 15k for a watch, but they hold all the cards.
